Review summary

ALL THE PORTS SCHEDULED WERE CHANGED two months before sailing but, we had airfare, hotel and time off from work scheduled, we didn't request a refund. (Royal offered full refund, no penalties... but, we went anyway.) So, we picked this cruise for the ports, which were all cancelled / changed. That being said, we had a lovely, relaxing time. Very romantic time, connecting and decompressing.

Embarkation

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Specialty Dining (Chops 2 times and Giovanni's once) was excellent. I suggest going to the dining room for breakfast (and lunch) when available at no charge because, Windjammer is too busy. Dinners in there dining room are hit and miss, especially with the new menu.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Pool and hot tubs are nice, although parents allowed their kids to 'swim' in the hot tubs unattended. The adult area kept the roof on so, if you desired sun, you had to go to the louder, outside area.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Elisa Furr (Celine Dion tribute) was incredible! Tango dancer show was impressive. Both are a can't miss. The earlier comedian show was funny but, later (adult) show was spicier. [We enjoyed both.] Musicians were solid throughout the ship. The Grandeur singers / dancers appeared unbalanced, with the men being so much stronger than the girls. The juggler was a waste so, feel free to skip that 'show'.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
As with all of my experiences onboard a ship, all of the service is excellent. I have no idea how everyone stays so positive and full of energy working 16-18 hours a day!! [Note: Tip beyond the authorized, assigned tips applied to your stateroom / guest to all that made your daily smile or made you feel special.]

Ship Quality

Small ship so very easy to get around.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Old ship so, cabin was (or felt) larger, with a lot of storage space. Balcony door stays open on its own so, you can sit in the cabin and hear and see the ocean. The bathroom was yucky smelling so, bring an air freshener. [Again, old ship + contained room + years of use = Yuck!]

Ship tip

The cabin bathroom was yucky smelling so, bring an air freshener. [Again, old ship + contained room + years of use = Yuck!]

Beach day. We rented a chair with umbrella. A lot of locals approach you to sell you something or offer massages, though.

Frederiksted, St. Croix, U.S.V.I.

Nice beach day.

San Juan, Puerto Rico Did not visit port

Stay on the ship.

Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

Short walk to the pool area, where you can setup camp and be steps away from bars, restaurants, countless stores... and they are building a lazy river. -- It's a can't miss!!

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

Best beach day because there was just our small ship at the port so, tons of room to enjoy. I suggest spending for a clam shell, which accommodates two people.

Disembarkation

Royal's disembarkaton is seamless.
