My first cruise experience and I think I've lived and learned!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food in the Great Gatsby was good, not great, but much better than the Windjammer which was mediocre at best.

Great Gatsby Dining Room

4 out of 5

The food here was good, not amazing. I feel lile the cruise line keeps the complementary food subpar to push the speciality dining (aka extra cost). Service here, however, was awesome. The waitstaff was very accommodating, engaging and helpful.

Windjammer Marketplace

1 out of 5

Food was mediocre at best. Breakfast was horrible. Lunch was okay. I was glad to visit some of the ports at lunch to get good tasting food.

Onboard Activities

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Seemed to be mostly geared to an older crowd. There wasn't much to do.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Staff definitely made up for the lack of entertainment and the bad food at the buffet. They are very accommodating, helpful, and pleasant.

Ship Quality

Cabin / Stateroom

It is very small and the bed was very uncomfortable.

Ship tip

If you want a slower pace during your cruise, this is the one for you. If you seek a bit more adventure while at sea, choose another.

Ports of call

Perfect Day At Coco Cay, Bahamas

5 out of 5
The name speaks for itself. We didn't enjoy the water park, but the pool and beaches are free. Everything was absolutely beautiful and I didn't want to leave. I wish we could have stayed there for 2 days.

Nassau, Bahamas

While everyone was nice, people selling stuff can be pushy. However, once you decline, most leave you be and are even willing to help you find your way. One downside was the amount of trash in the streets. There was actually a garbage stench throughout. Also, a tip, if you port on a Sunday, nothing opens until 9:30am. I am glad to say I've been to Nassau, but I am not sure I'd go again.

Port Canaveral, Florida

3 out of 5
If you are planning on walking anywhere from this port, change your mind. We opted to take a free shuttle to a car rental place and rented a small vehicle for the day to explore the area. Cocoa beach is not far, but you will have to pay to park.

Baltimore, Maryland

4 out of 5
Easy to get to, especially if you are local. Parking is pricey, so if you can use uber/lyft etc or have family drop you off. Everything went smoothly despite long lines when checking in.

Charleston, South Carolina

4 out of 5
Pretty well kept city, and a lot of things are in walking distance. It seems the main attractions are restaurants and horse drawn carriage rides, which seems to be a point of contention for some of the locals. There is also a water taxi.

We enjoyed Grandeur just because we got to relax for 9 nights. We also enjoy larger ships but feel the small ones are nice too.

I actually did the Glass Bottom tour excursion. It was only about an hour long, however.

Grandeur is definitely more for relaxing. Next time you go to Nassau book on excursion, the beaches are beautiful once you get outside the port area.
