Review summary

This was a laid-back 9 day cruise for pure relaxation. The weather was beautiful until the last couple of days when we were skirting a Nor'easter. Captain Ante (who has a wonderful sense of humor!!! Sad I missed Captain's Corner) seemed to make good decisions as to how to get us back to Baltimore in a safe and timely manner. As I said before, the service and staff on Grandeur were wonderful. Looking forward to sailing on her again next year.

Embarkation

Embarkation was smooth and friendly!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The ship's food was wonderful as usual. So many great options! However, we were so disappointed that Chocolate Sensation has been discontinued. Several of the desserts (particularly at Windjammer, Park Café, and Lattitudes) that I expected to be yummy were just not so. The coffee was often burnt tasting, too. We had a certificate to Giovanni's, which was a fun and delicious experience, but there was sooo much food! We were all absolutely stuffed when we left.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
The fitness center is great, except it consistently lacked circulation. It was so stuffy and hot when we arrived and we always had to ask for some circulation or a/c. Also, it would be great if all the upper body weight machines were together and lower body weight machines were together so one did not have to zig zag all over the room to work out in a systematic way.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
I am so tired of the Royal Caribbean Singers and Dancers shows. I can understand having one or two of these, but since they are often medley shows, I would hope they wouldn't turn around and book another medley band, as good as they may be. I have in the past loved the entertainment on Grandeur, but this trip seemed to lack a lot.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Other than some resistance about an issue of damaged luggage, the staff and service were wonderful.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Grandeur is an old ship and has to be appreciated as such. I was glad to see her not looking as run-down as she had last year when I sailed. She was clean and comfortable.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Great cabin. Clean and comfortable. I love that they took the "concessions" out of the rooms this year.

Ship tip

This is a ship to go on when you want to relax and have a little entertainment here and there. It is not technologically innovative as the newer ships are. I just booked my 5th cruise on her.

Ports of call

Baltimore, Maryland

Charleston, South Carolina

Wonderful historic area. Before you sail, sign up at Free Tours on Foot for the historic walking tour. Scott is a fabulous tour guide who knows his stuff and you won't be bored.

Port Canaveral, Florida Did not visit port

Nothing to do nearby. Not interested in options.

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island

We took a cab with friends and 10 other people to Paradise Island Beach Resort and snorkeled at Dead Man's Reef. Excellent experience when the weather is nice.

Nassau, Bahamas

4 out of 5
We walked to the Queen's Stairway and a bit around downtown. Not thrilled with Nassau.

Cococay (Cruise Line's Private Island)

5 out of 5
Excellent day at Cococay. Snorkeled and had lunch. Eager to see what all the improvements are going to turn out to be. Looks like more than just a pier being built from all the land that has been cleared.

Disembarkation

Again, smooth and no waiting to speak of.
