We were new to cruising, and this was the perfect introduction. We were amazed at how friendly the staff was and just what a well polished machine Princess Cruises is. We took a land cruise first, and it was as enjoyable as the actual cruise and blended seamlessly. It was all so simple to follow, and of course it was gorgeous from start to finish. My only real complaint is that Princess’s medallion app did not function well at all, however the medallion itself worked like a charm. Also, Wi-Fi was much slower than I would prefer.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
We had a land tour first. Princess representatives came on our train to pre-approve us, making the actual embarkation basically a walk onto the ship.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
We were spoiled by the wide availability of food and drinks. We found the food tasty and the service exceeding our expectations. And the medallion made food and drink delivery a breeze.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
I give this five stars because I know there is a lot available, but we did not make use of these activities.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Loved the entertainment. We hit all of the big stage shows (We especially liked the British Invasion and Mowtown shows), and we often found ourselves enjoying the music in the plaza.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
The staff could not have been friendlier. Our cabin steward was phenomenal, never failing to sneak in twice a day when we were out to pick up and clean our room) and the wait staff made dining a pleasure. We were truly spoiled.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The ship is older and shows her age here and there, but it was always clean. Having no sense of direction, I found myself getting lost easily, but the interactive maps always came to the rescue.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
The cabin was surprisingly spacious. We never felt cramped and did not need the extra space-saving devices we had purchased in advance of the trip. And our cabin steward kept the room in tip top shape.
Enjoyed all the time allotted to view the glaciers as well as the naturalist’s commentary. There was lots of wildlife in this area including humpback whales, orcas, otters and sea lions.
We visited Mendenhall Glacier then went whale watching. We loved our excursions. Weather was rainy and we were tired, so we didn’t check out the town. It was one I would have liked to explore more thoroughly.
The lumberjack show was more entertaining than we had expected, and we enjoyed our trip to Bight Totem Park. We got to walk around a little more here and enjoyed the town.
We took a tour of the city which then ultimately dropped us and our luggage off at the airport. I found the tour very interesting, but I wished we had had a little more time off bus to explore some more.
We’ve never cruised before, so we have nothing to compare to. We thought they were very organized, but the process was much slower than I had anticipated. Also, it was the one time we had trouble finding our excursion.
