Review summary

Fabulous cruise! We loved every day on board. Staff were amazing and the ship was lovely - not too big. Our 3 ports were very similar with lots of jewellery stores but, you can find some hidden gems among them. The excursions that we did were fabulous and gave us a glimpse of the Alaskan wilderness.

Embarkation

We got on the ship quite early in spite of long queues at immigration. Make sure you have an ESTA if a non- US citizen using the Visa waiver scheme. Even with one, it takes ages.

Ship experiences

The Bernini restaurant was brilliant. Really good food and the staff were amazing.

Onboard Activities

We used the fitness centre which isn't the biggest, and the spa! There was always something happening for anyone looking for fun activities.

Cabin / Stateroom

We had a mini suite around mid-ship that was perfect. Plenty if storage space and very comfortable.

Ship tip

If you are using anytime dining, Bernini is superb. We got soda packages and I also had the premium coffee. It was well worth adding the coffee and getting a good quality coffee at any time.

Ports of call

Skagway, Alaska

We loved this lovely little town. Buildings kept in an old-fashioned style. Full of the same shops as the other ports but, there were one or two independent shops that sold very different things.

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

Could be better signposting. We got lost and ended up trying to get through lots of people coming off ships and heading to buses!

Ketchikan, Alaska

A nice little town that would have been nice to explore further. We left mid-afternoon so it felt like a short visit.

Juneau, Alaska

Shame about the rain when we visited, but a really interesting port. We did 2 trips here with Princess - Timberline Trek and Whale watching. Both were excellent.

Cruise Glacier Bay

Glaciers were amazing. It was really cold and rainy the day we were here.

Cruise College Fjord, Alaska

Sailing here was amazing. Getting a chance to see the glaciers and surrounding scenery was fabulous.

Really just a place to get off the ship.

Very efficient. We had transport booked with ACT via the wildlife park and our luggage was right where we needed them.

Looking forward to sailing out of LA to Alaska in June of 2020. I was told that soon after the ship would be sold to P and O. I have sailed on the Golden twice before and have always enjoyed it.
