Review summary

Ship, food good, grog a ripoff, Milford sound amazing ,

Embarkation

4 out of 5
The embarkation took quite a long time but considering the amount of people it ran fairly smoothly

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The main restaurants had lovely food every day. The buffet was ok but not up to the restaurant quality.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
At our age the only activity was to walk

Entertainment

5 out of 5
This was outstanding with great singers and dancers

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
We could not fault the waiters and room steward who bent over backwards to help and did so in a very nice manner. They always spoke and offered assistance all the time. The ships officers were mostly non speaking and tended to look down on us poor peasants.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship was clean, getting old , and in need of a make up

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cabin was small and lacking a couch, the new mattresses were great but the pillows were way too soft.

Ship tip

Don't buy the coffee card online prior to boarding. They charged me $46.80 for 15 coffees but when we were onboard the same card cost $36.00 for 15 coffees. Absolute and utter rip off. I have emailed the head office to explain why ? Also online the beer was buy 4 bottles/cans and get 5 but onboard it was buy 5 and get 6

Ports of call

Melbourne, Australia

1 out of 5
too far to walk from gates to ship with cases and even worse on the return

Port Chalmers (Dunedin), New Zealand

3 out of 5
Nice city but hilly to walk. Rip off bus fare from ship to city .

Akaroa, New Zealand

4 out of 5
Nice pretty little town

Wellington, New Zealand

5 out of 5
We did an excursion in a bus around the bay to a reception place high on a hill overlooking the sea. They gave us a lovely morning tea and a sheep dog demonstration. well worth the money

Gisborne, New Zealand

3 out of 5
Tender to shore then another rip off bus ride to boring city. No excursion

Tauranga, New Zealand

1 out of 5
Our ship arrived first before sister ship but we were berthed behind it so the walk was very very long. The rip off bus took us into city and the instead of dropping us off at our ship it dumped us off in front of other ship and made us walk again.

Auckland, New Zealand Did not visit port

We were told technical trouble with ship and it could not maintain its cruising speed. Absolute lie, ship had no trouble, we were given $150.00 each compensation and heard stories about Auckland Port wanting to charge ship more so ship said we will bypass .

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
Terrible, bus pickup late and huge wait to get to Melbourne Southern Cross Station. Huge walk from ship to bus with cases.

Psst... Try the light rail to southern cross, its fast, cheap, efficient and it leaves every few minutes...oh sorry, you have to walk a few metres to get to the station
