Great ship in need of refreshment and main dining room menu needs an immediate reboot.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
This is not our first time out of San Juan and we always come down early to avoid weather and decompress prior to boarding. We found its better to arrive early afternoon to avoid the crowds. Very easy process and the team at the port very friendly. We boarded with minimal issue, walked down the Promenade and able to goto our room. No issues at all.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Where to start as this was a disappointing trip in regards to the food. For breakfast we were in the Windjammer each morning. Unfortunately they never change up the options each morning so the omelets are a good choice. First night was in Chops and it was as if always is. Very good steak and nice way to start our trip. One other night we did goto Sabor, and it was excellent. (That nights menu in the main dining room was beyond awful). The rest of the nights were in the main dining room and it's was terrible. Few years back they changed and reduced the menu, and since then the meals have gotten worse. Each night you have the options for the night and the classics. Truth is we had to choose from the classics most nights. The choices for dinner were so limited that we would order two items (normal and classic) so we had something, and most times ended with the classic item. So disappointing.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Overall good things on board, but wish they had few more fun things on deck each day.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
We have seen all the major shows, but this time the skating was amazing and the end of cruise show was perfect. Headliners were good, except for the three man group (motown group) was bad.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Overall very good, but the ship personnel around the ship were not as friendly.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5

Ports of call

Bridgetown, Barbados

Took a tour to a beach and it was amazing. Was very crowded with chairs and umbrellas, but we went into the amazing water and spent three hours in the water. Amazing time with the family.

Basseterre, St. Kitts

Not much to do and we attempted to go zip lining but was cancelled due to crowds. Went in town area instead to do something, but limited things to see.

Sorry you did not enjoy the food. We were on another royal ship with the same menus last month and found an excellent variety and quality in both the main dining rooms and at the buffet. There were always a selection of beef, chicken, fish, pasta and usually a vegetarian option. I never understand people complaining about the same options for breakfast at the buffet every morning. Yes, they do have the same options every morning, but they have dozens of options that include every breakfast item imaginable and then some - bacon, 2-3 types of sausage, ham, Multiple types of eggs, toast, biscuits, gravy, hashbrowns, fried potatoes, toast, bagels, Multiple types of pastries, multiple types of cereal, oatmeal, congee, grits, beans, rice, fish, yogurt and numerous other items. Unless someone has extreme food allergies, or is the pickiest eater in the world, they should be able to find something they can eat on a cruise ship.

The menu for mdr is the same fleet wide. We have always found great choices every night.
