Because the ship sailed out of Puerto Rico, 90% of the people on the ship were Puerto Rican/spanish speaking and the whole cruise/activities seemed to center around that. We felt like outsiders most of the time. We went to a line dancing class which ended up being latin dancing, for example. We won't choose that as a destination to leave from again.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Chaos dropping luggage off but because we had a suite, we had priority on boarding so it was great.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
2 out of 5
Not what it used to be. The best food was Johnny Rockets which we, of course, had to pay for . The included food options were very mediocre.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
My boys played basketball some and did FloRider. Otherwise most activities were super late at night and we didnt participate
Entertainment
1 out of 5
We did see one show that was ok. Music by pools was monotonous or latin. I had expected to dance and sing and there just wasnt any of that going on.
Children's Programs
no small children
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Our room steward was very very nice. Our head waiter was also super conscientious and detailed. We liked them alot. The concierge was also a game changer for us on the ship. She was always super helpful!
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
Ship was clean but seemed many areas had not been updated in awhile and were quite worn in.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Lots of storage space. beautiful balcony with comfortable seating. Room size was good.
Ship tip
unless you speak spanish, don't take a cruise out of Puerto Rico
I have done 3 cruises on Royal out of Puerto Rico in the last 4 years and have never felt like this. We are going on MSC next week and are looking forward to a cruise on an Italian cruise line and then back to Puerto Rico on Royal in March. I love the culture.
In any case I hope you still enjoyed your cruise.
I dont hear the complaint being about the people on the ship but more about the ship not balancing the different nationalities with music, speaking, ect. I think balance is the key. I'm hoping to "sing and dance" too and also hope there is a mix of music and cultures when we go in April. Balance is the key - fun to enjoy the new things and also the familiar :)
And did you still have fun....I mean, how do you think foreigners feel on a ship from Florida? Im sure they make the most of it and have fun like you should. Enjoy the culture.
So you flew to Puerto Rico, got on a ship in Puerto Rico, a ship that home ports in Puerto Rico and your surprised to see Puerto Rican and Spanish speaking people on the ship?? 🤦♂️
