Review summary

We had a fantastic time on our first cruise aboard Freedom of the seas. We particularly enjoyed the large Latin population on board. The music and dancing really added to the fun for us. We are already planning our next cruise and leaning toward another adventure on Freedom of the Seas!

Ship tip

Look at your Cruise Conpass and highlight activities that interest you. We were able to really maximize our time on the ship by doing this every morning at breakfast!

We would say there are 4 main differences between Freedom of the Seas and Allure of the Seas. Number 1: the entertainment choices on Allure are outstanding, however you should schedule most of the big entertainment shows, before embarkation. Number 2: Oasis class Windjammers, while outstanding for choices, get awfully crowded on embarkation day and some obvious lunch and dinner times throughout the cruise, the Park Cafe and Solarium Bistro are excellent Alternatives but they do not have the variety you would expect in the Windjammer. Number 3: the neighborhoods on Allure are absolutely fabulous and help getting around on the ship a lot easier than the size of the ship would indicate. Number 4: you don't quite get the same personal recognition from the staff that you do on Freedom or other smaller ships, although we found that the staff on Allure are excellent and really work hard to be warm and appreciative of you as a guest.

We’re booked on the Allure next June so we’ll be trying out the Oasis class. It took some convincing to get my husband to agree to anything other than Freedom!

Our November 25th sailing on Freedom of the Seas will be our fourth time on this beautiful ship. I agree that Oasis class ships are to be experienced, they are loaded with more activities than anything floating and their entertainment neighborhood is the best laid out of any cruise ship I've ever experienced. But we actually prefer Freedom class. You can go into the Windjammer anytime find a seat and easily get to all the food choices, it has great personal service and it has plenty of activities. We have our fourth and fifth FOS cruises upcoming. We will be back on Oasis class at some time but in between we will probably enjoy several Freedom class and Radiance class cruises.

Heading out in November for our second go on Freedom of the Seas. Glad you enjoyed it. Can’t wait to see the southern Caribbean.

Jo, I actually wanted to change that and was unable to do so. It was very quick. We were through in no time but we were initially confused as to where to go/what to do. I realized after rating 3/5 stars that it was primarily due to our initially being a bit overwhelmed and not any fault of the cruise line. I tried to edit it and it was apparently too late!

We are going on our 2nd cruise in October on Freedom. San Juan round trip, but 8 nights, and we're going to Bonaire instead of St. Kitts. If I may ask, can you tell me why you gave embarkation 3 out of 5 stars?

We will be onboard 7 July 2018 with our nephews who are both 20 years old. This is a gift from us because they are both students with "A" averages. They will be Juniors at the University of Puerto Rico.

You are right. The ships out of PR have a lot of locals on board. For the most part they are happy and ready to party; remember you will probably never see your fellow passengers again, so hang loose and enjoy. Happy cruising!
