Review summary

Excellent cruise with great destinations. But, a destination every single day, until the last full day which is the only sea day, does make it quite tiring and we're relatively young and very fit, LOL!

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was excellent, but we do have Diamond and also a Junior Suite, so we did manage to jump the line considerably. But to be fair the line looked OK regardless. We arrived around 1130.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
My Time dining - great experience as always. Had a lovely balcony table for 2 overlooking the 2 floors below.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Brilliant fitness centre.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Fantastic production cast shows and ice shows. Headliner acts didn't appeal to we didn't see them. Didn't see very much of the Cruise Director and only saw the Activities Manager at the Quest show. Cruise Director Staff - Carlos and Prince however, were outstanding.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Ship is currently in excellent condition. That said, the outdoor section to the rear of the Diamond lounge seems to be under reconstruction, which was somewhat irritating as we had exactly the same situation on the Independence in May... not a huge deal, but do miss that outside space.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Junior Suite on deck 10. Excellent condition and cleanliness. Actually the carpets looked brand-new. Lovely. We genuinely prefer the sense of more "open" space in a Junior Suite, over a Grand.

Ports of call

Barcelona, Spain

5 out of 5

Marseille (Provence), France

4 out of 5
We tool the ships transfer coach which, in m opinion at €24 each, was somewhat overpriced. But it's a fabulous city and definitely worth visiting.

Villefranche-Sur-Mer, France

4 out of 5
Excellent small port, with tender. Very easy rail access to Nice on one direction (only 3 stops!) and Monte Carlo in the other direction. Check for French Rail strikes though!

La Spezia, Italy

4 out of 5
Port is "container city" but short complimentary shuttle bus goes to the entrance which is an pleasant walk into town.

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

4 out of 5
Most people take the rail trip to ROME, which is relatively easy and less than an hour. But be sure to "validate" your ticket before you ride! If you don't and they check, they will fine you on the spot. That said, Civitavecchia itself is a very pleasant town.

Naples, Italy

3 out of 5
Noisy Naples! Dirty and dusty. But quite charming nonetheless. Ship stops right by the city and also by the ferry to Capri.

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
Disembarkation was actually very easy, but I have to say I hate the way they literally try and kick you off the ships earlier and earlier each time.

This cruise was perfect for myself and my family for those reasons! We ranged in age from 5-74. For those who wanted to leave ship there was plenty to do. Same went for those wanting to remain onboard. With my kids and I, we did a balance of both and had a great time!

You aren't required to get off the ship.

And what part of this itinerary did you not know when you booked the cruise? Good thing you are young and fit. You survived!
