Review summary

Overall the cruise was okay. The time was not okay.. Too many kids[1000] was there so we were unable to use the pool and jacussie until the families got ofrf the ship to visit the islands. We had a great waiter at our table that helped us to celebrate our annaversay. We are used to smaller ships in the 3000 people range.I guess we have to be more carefull in picking our next cruise and with what line.We have been on Princess some 18 trips and was very happy until we got on their large ship in Dec. So again I guess we have to be more careful when we pick our next cruise.

Did you not find the adult only pool on the Freedom of the Seas?

I agree that time of year is the most important way to cruise with fewer little ones. We are now in our fourth year of cruising as empty nester's during winter and slightly off peak periods. On ships large and "medium', they all have a much smaller percentage of the little ones and we don't mind the lower fares during off peak periods. This has also held true regardless of cruise line. I suspect cruise length has some impact but we haven't been on a cruise less than 1 week in 14 years and probably won't in the future. I used the term 'medium' to refer to anything below 130,000 tons these days.

We certainly respect and admire parents that share the fun and experiences of cruising with their children, especially when they continue to be parents on the cruise. We still enjoy cruising with family but they are now adults that join us when they can.

The other thing you need to consider if you do not wish to have to deal with an onslaught of kids is the time of year you book. End of March through the end of September tend to be more costly when booking and because it's when school is out, that is when families go on cruises. Also, consider doing a T/A (Trans-Atlantic). There are usually many less kids aboard these cruises. We did one on the Caribbean Princess this past end of April through beginning of May and there were a TOTAL of 4 kids onboard.

It sounds like a smaller vessel is for you.  Of course if you travel when kids are on holiday, even a small ship will be overrun with kids.  I hope that your next cruise is a better fit for you.
