Review summary

This was a cruise to celebrate a couple of things in our lives: a key anniversary and a 'big' birthday. We enjoyed every single day that we were away from home.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Long queues, but the ship holds up to 4000 passengers (not including crew), so should not have been surprised!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
We ate in two speciality restaurants during the cruise, and had breakfast, lunch and dinner in the Sapphire Dining Room whenever possible, and otherwise in the Windjammer buffet on port days. Food in all three categories was excellent, as was the service.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We did a lot of Trivia, a Sushi-making class and spent some time in the fitness centre (but did not participate in any of the sessions organised there).

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Stage shows were good to excellent, performers around the ship likewise!

Children's Programs

No children ...

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All personnel worked very hard to make our experience an enjoyable one, the waiters and waitresses in the dining room especially so!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
This was not our first time on this class of ship ... we enjoyed the familiarity. The common areas are kept very clean and well-maintained!

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We took a slightly larger balcony cabin for this cruise owing to the amount of time we would be travelling (we have never cruised for 23 consecutive days before). It did not disappoint! It was clean and comfortable, and there was ample storage space!

Ship tip

The Promenade Deck (4) is excellent for walking if the sun is too strong on Deck 12!

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

5 out of 5
No excursion! Point of arrival and departure on the Explorer. We explored the city for a day prior to departure, but could have easily spent a week there!

Honolulu, Oahu

5 out of 5
We spent much of the daytime in the Ana Moana shopping mall (at a splendid café with good food and internet services). We joined friends at Waikiki for a fantastic evening meal at a grand hotel.

Lahaina, Maui

4 out of 5
We stayed in Lahaina, did not do an excursion, had a great lunch at a local café, just watching the world go by!

Cross International Dateline

5 out of 5
I have never seen the International Dateline referred to as a 'Port'.

Lautoka, Fiji Islands

3 out of 5
The town of Lautoka is not one of the world's architectural gems, however the hinterland is stunning!

Suva, Fiji

4 out of 5
The town of Suva is not one of the world's architectural gems, however the hinterland is stunning!

Mystery Island, Vanuatu Did not visit port

a medical emergency on board meant that we had to miss Mystery Island

Lifou Isle, New Caledonia

4 out of 5
Beautiful tropical Island. No excursion undertaken. We just ook the tender to shore, stayed in the village, did some walking.

Mare Isle, Loyalty Islands, New Caledonia

5 out of 5
Another beautiful tropical Island, but with better beaches than Lifou. We took the tender to shore and the shuttle to beautiful Yejele beach for snorkeling.

Sydney, Australia

5 out of 5
This was not our first visit to Sydney. We did do an excursion to the Blue Mountains, which we arranged via our hotel on arrival.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Efficient and fast!
