Review summary
First of all, thanks to Justin Williams, our "" consultant, for his professional advice.
My companion and I consider ourselves to be "a young" 60 years old. While wanting to avoid a "party barge," we do like active crowds and like to seek out new friends on cruises. At first, we were taken aback by the number of "mature" passengers on the Eurodam. But, our fears were unfounded as there was an adequate cross section of ADULT age groups for us. And I can attest, when we anchored alongside the Carnival "Paradise" in Cozumel and were able to compare the "mood" of their passengers, we proudly stepped back onto the Eurodam and was thankful for such a nice vessel.
For us, the Eurodam experience if more about relaxation. There are things to do, but the "nightclub" scene is not happening and while we are non-gamblers, we noted the casino small. The food was good, the ship "comfortable" yet over the top elegant. Friendly, attentive staff. Entertaining shows. Again, a slower pace but not boring.
HAL did a good job with embarkation/debarkation. I would mention this was out first cruise from Port Everglades/Ft. Lauderdale and we both agree the Port of Miami and Miami International (even with the monster sized airport) was easier to deal with. The Ft. Lauderdale airport is not large enough to handle the cruise crowds. And, I will add that EVERY cab driver I have ever dealt with in Ft. Lauderdale has been "less than professional" and I have been going to Ft. Lauderdale for decades. And you will find that the UBER drivers will find and excuse to cancel once they realize it is an airport pickup as they don't like taking singles or couples (HINT: use your wife or girlfriends account to summon UBER, the "foreign" UBER drivers in FLL will think they might have a chance to hit on her. Learned this from a local).
Back to the cruise: We enjoyed it. Not sure if HAL will be first on the list for our next cruise, but they might be. I have "only" taken 6 cruises thus far and am still sampling the offerings. So far I know if one cruise line which I will never take again and HAL may not make it as my favorite. But it is in the running for a strong second place finish and that is pretty good.
