Review summary

Although the level of service was behind compare there were several issues that need to be addressed for further consideration. My Husband is a diabetic and requires a refrigerator to store and keep his medication. We understand that the process of receiving that request to the time it takes to actually deliver could be lengthy but the wait and the anticipation and worrying that perhaps we would not be able to keep his insulin was stressful to say the least. It was delivered finally and for that we are thankful. Moving on to our main dining room arrangements of hoping to change the 8:30 PM seating to an earlier one proved to be a bit of a challenge. We were told to return to the dining room at approx. 6:20 - 6:30 and while the effort was made to accommodate our needs we were not seated until well after 7:15 with guests who were well into their dessert portion of their meal. This being our first ever experience of main room dining as well as our first cruise in over 25 years it left us wondering if we had made the right decision as one by one all the other guests left the dining room we were left alone to wait on our dessert and watch as the staff cleaned and prepped for the next seating. Feeling rather self conscious we left the area so as the staff can finally clear where we had been. Your complimentary beverage stations were without product more than they were stocked. On multiple trips we were left with nothing more than colored water instead of fruit punch nor lemonade or ice tea & coffee also proved to be a challenge as well. We were so excited over the soft serve ice cream machines but once again disappointed as more times than we can count the machines were out of service. We were thrilled on the first day when we discovered that strawberry & vanilla was featured but that was the first and only time we were able to get it. One machine went down on the second day and never but back online again. We stationed ourselves in comfortable seating watching the people traffic approach the ice cream station only to walk away disappointed much like ourselves. There were attendants who tried to fix & maintain the demand but really that is one area that should have a full-time attendant or at least someone to make them for us on a time schedule system. From this experience we have learned what we need in future cruises to satisfy our comfort & level of overall expedition. Yes, the ship is worn around the edges, but from the bigger picture put out there it left us content and refreshed as a wonderful escape from our day to day working lifestyle that everyone should experience! From the moment we stepped unto the Enchantment of the Seas to the time we disembarked ~ like a fish on the end of the line ~ we were hooked!

It was comfortable and clean however a refrigerator as a standard unit in each cabin would have been ideal. We were provided with a small unit to keep our medication. For that we were grateful ~

Ship tip

Study your ships layout to help in finding areas you would like to explore and take advantage of the main dining room venue. Stay away from Windjammers for dinner ~

Was well organized and orderly as each of us were placed in a area of the ship and released as a group ~ when approached by the agent after picking up our luggage we were detained due to the fact my Husband set off the detector alarming them of a "nuclear" finding. We were placed in a holding area and waited for a special device to accurately determine the cause. It was due to a medical test he had prior to our voyage and was then released ~ It was in our minds a total waste of time as we knew we couldn't possibly be a "threat"

Thanks for the balanced review. We too had a 25 year gap in taking a cruise and our first modern cruise was, just like you, on one of the oldest ships in the RCI fleet (for us it was Monarch). Mass market cruising isn't a 5 star resort experience but a very relaxing way to vacation and we are hooked as well. We have learned to do vigorous research to get our expectations in line. We also learned that all ship classes are quite different and the newest and biggest and the oldest and smallest both have unique qualities. We have been on Enchantment the most of all ships, partially because of the port and partially because it is a relaxing ship. The Mariner is replacing Enchantment and that will be our new ship for short escapes. Enjoy your future cruise!

My brother set off a "nuclear" alarm after a thallium stress test. Problem was he was going into Andrews Air Force base in Washington DC, they took the "threat" VERY seriously.

We have been on 4 Princess cruises--on the Royal, the Regal and the Caribbean princess and all cabins had a refrigerator. You can also bring a small cooler on board with an ice pack or ice for his insulin. We did that since we did not know how long of a wait we would have to get into our cabin. We really like Princess.
