Review summary

We had a great experience overall with our first-ever Royal Caribbean cruise. We found the staff to be top-notch, we loved our cruise director, "Bing Bong" Mark, we enjoyed our balcony room, and the weather cooperated nicely!

However, the extensive amount of money one would have to spend to fully enjoy their cruise experience left us feeling "nickeled and dimed." For example, if we wanted to drink soft drinks throughout our cruise, it was $8/day per person. If we wanted to purchase a drink package including alcoholic beverages, those ranged from $42-$67 daily, per person. And we found the prices of shore excursions to be quite, quite high.

I would cruise again with Royal Caribbean, but I would go in knowing that drink packages and shore excursions can be quite expensive, and budget that out.

Reading your review about additional charges, were these not the same on your first cruise?

Thanks for the review! As to "feeling nickeled and dimed," is there another cruise line that doesn't do this? If so, which? I've always paid for these things, and felt like it was just the way things are. I'd certainly try a different line that included all of the drinks and excursions for a similar price to what Royal charges.
