Review summary
this was my first cruise on RCCL
first the pluses: check-in was very quick and easy, had wheelchair assistance and a very friendly porter; everyone on the ship we encountered was very friendly except for the sales staff in perfumes and cosmetics; our room steward, room service wait staff and the wait staff in the dining venues were very attentive and made this the most pleasant part of the cruise.
now for the negatives: I had made arrangements for a scooter to be delivered to the stateroom and when we got to the room it was there but we had no available outlets, for medical reasons we need access to 5 outlets at night, it took me until 11 pm that night after talking to 4 different departments to get enough extension cords to recharge everything -- when we cruise Holland American with same requirements we had the extension cords delivered and the maintenance staff taped down all the extension cords for safety -- had no such luck or experience with this cruise.
we had to have an accessible cabin and we were placed on deck 2, just a warning - the beds were the most uncomfortable I have ever slept in and I have cruised in US, Caribbean, Europe, Russia and others and these beds consisted of a very thin and lumpy mattress resting on a metal bed frame. The other issue was the odor in the bathroom, we had brought air freshner but ran out of that by the second day, used our Shalimar and Chanel when we had to be in the bathroom, there was a constant smell of sewage,,maybe because we were on 2nd deck?
Room service was very timely but had an extremely limited menu, also when we ordered coffee and hot tea they would bring one cup, we borrowed another cup from the buffets
when we left the ship we needed wheelchair assistance, as a result we were the next to the last people to leave the ship.
Good luck, don't ask for accessible cabin, bring extra air freshener and extension cords if you need them and don't accept a cabin on deck 2.
