This was our first southern Caribbean cruise, and our first balcony cabin. The southern islands are the most beautiful and the most fun in the Caribbean. Emerald was, and still is, a great ship. If you don't like the huge new ships, but you don't want a small ship, Emerald is a great size.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Don't really remember any specifics from this cruise embarkation, but I think it was the first time we used offsite parking, which has worked great for ever since. Much cheaper than parking at the port, and very convenient.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
We loved Emerald so much that we've been back three times. Even with the balcony cabin I spent many hours at the terrace pool area. A great place to relax, without being isolated on a private balcony.
Slice Pizzeria
5 out of 5
I have loved Slice pizza on every Princess ship. It is often my choice for lunch.
Onboard Activities

Terrace Pool
5 out of 5
The terrace pool is the best place on the ship to relax. The only problem is too many people tend to figure this out and it can be hard to get a seat.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Loved all the shows, and we enjoyed some of the smaller venues.
Princess Theater
5 out of 5
We love the theater on Grand class ships. They are a little smaller than the Royal class ships, but they are more comfortable and easier to access and to move around in.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Service was fantastic. Room steward was great. Main dining room wait staff were great.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Emerald was still fairly new at this time and in great shape. Slightly different than Caribbean Princess, but similar enough to make it easy to find our way around.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
This was our first balcony cabin, and it was great to see the water just outside the door. The room itself was similar to the interior cabins we had been in before. We had a great room steward, as usual.
We started with a drive over the mountain to Magens Bay. Then we were dropped off at Blackbeard's castle National Historic Landmark, where we climbed the tower for a great view over the town, then toured the rum distillery, and sampled some rum. Then we walked down the hill, through town, to the ship.
This was our first time to Dominica, and we visited Trafalgar falls. The falls are amazing. I highly recommend any excursion that goes to the falls. However, there are many steps, and the path can be difficult, especially in the rain.
