Overall an OK cruise, but it does not cater for gluten free and dairy free diets.

Review summary

We enjoyed the ports of call, but more complimentary shuttle buses were needed. We had not purchased any drinks package as we do not drink, but saw very few people actually drinking as drinks were very expensive. Food was not very good in the casual dining or main dining rooms, especially for people with dietary requirements. Entertainment was ok, quizzes geared for American passengers, only one decent special guest artist (instrumentalist). Production Team shows were good.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We are both gluten and dairy free and struggled to find much to eat. We mainly ate roast meat, veg, curries, rice and salad and jelly and fruit. Gluten free bread supplied was toasted, rock hard and tasteless, and cookies and pastries crumbled and tasted like wallpaper paste.b we bought gluten free bread, cakes and cookies in supermarkets in port so we would at least make sandwiches and have a cookie with our tea!

International Café

2 out of 5

Poor choice of gluten and dairy free food. No gluten free cakes or cookies!

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Paper plane making was fun, quizzes very biased to American passengers.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Shows were good on the whole, only decent guest artist was the instrumentalist. Female singers had harsh loud voices.

Children's Programs

No children in party

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All staff tried to help as much as possible with our dietary requirements.

Ship Quality

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Our cabin was kept very clean and comfortable by our steward who was very helpful but unobtrusive. The Kettle was on high shelf - I am 5'9" and could reach it, but it could be scalding hazard for other people, unless they plugged it in to hairdryer's plug. Not enough sockets to charge phones and kindles. Shower head was too low for hubby who is well over 6 '. Cabin was over door to smokers' corner, so constant banging of door throughout the night. Children were running up and down the corridors till gone midnight. Thank goodness I took industrial earplugs!

Ship tip

If you are gluten free take your favourite bread, cookie and cake with you!

We did not visit Dublin as too far out, train took 1 hour each way. We climbed Martello tower featured in James Joyce's Ulysses, fantastic views. Tender back was very choppy.

Belfast, Northern Ireland

We had to pay for shuttle bus. We visited Ulster museum and walked round to view murals. Titanic museum was very expensive.

We walked round docks, and visited both cathedrals. Undercroft in Roman Catholic cathedral well worth visiting.

4 out of 5
We had pleasant walk in Greenock and visited the very interesting Fire and rescue museum. Watts Institute unfortunately closed that day.

South Queensferry (Edinburgh), Scotland

Train strike meant we could not get into Edinburgh by train, the queue for buses was very long so walked round South Queensferry.

A complimentary shuttle bus took us to Tynemouth for metro into Newcastle. We walked over all bridges and visited Sage centre and Baltic Wharf. Newcastle castle well worth a visit.

3 out of 5
Did not do any tours, shuttle bus was very expensive, so walked into centre and walked for miles along promenade.

Disembarkation

Quick and efficient, although our disembarkation time was ungodly early 7.45am so skipped breakfast.
