Review summary

This was our first cruise and a trip of a lifetime for us. Sailing up Tracy Arm Fjord is breathtaking and the ports of call were generally a lot of fun. We were impressed with the beauty, comfort and service on the Emerald Princess and had one of the best experiences of our lives. We would definitely look forward to sailing with them in the future.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Excellent and friendly staff welcomed us and it was very well organized. The nice man that checked us in made us feel very welcome and gave us some tips about the ship. Great 1st impression!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Very much enjoyed the food and the variety. The specialty dining rooms were beautiful and the service was excellent. The buffet dining room service was sometimes inconsistent. Sometimes they would offer to bring you tea or coffee, other times, you were on your own to serve yourself. It was a bit of a nuisance to have someone drop by your table and try to get you to purchase some type of liquor shots. Too much of a hard sell that could be a little annoying. Avoid the outdoor grill - probably the worst hamburger I have ever tried.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
There were plenty of activities throughout the day and some were a little more organized than others. Trivia games were fun along with game shows. There was a lot to enjoy for most tastes and age groups.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The entertainment was great and the cruise director and staff were generally first rate. We watched two comedians that were very good and non-offensive. There was a variety of shows and entertainers for all tastes in the bars and theater.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our room steward did an outstanding job and was very courteous. You can tell these men and women work very hard. There was good management visibility in the dining rooms and common areas. You could tell that they were very invested in ensuring their staff provides a high level of service.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was beautiful with an Italian theme. Each bar and dining room was a pleasant place to spend time and well maintained. We would highly recommend the Emerald Princess.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We had a great mini-suite room with plenty of room and beautiful views outside of our balcony. We were surprised that this was one of the most comfortable beds we ever slept in. We would definitely reserve this type of room again. Our room steward was outstanding and serviced our room several times a day. We couldn't ask for more.

Ship tip

Get outside and enjoy the views from the bow of the ship. This is a well designed ship with lots of comfortable areas to enjoy the scenery.

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

5 out of 5
We did not do an excursion but spent a couple of days on our own enjoying the city. This is one of the most beautiful cities in the US, so try and take a day or two to enjoy it while you're there.

Ketchikan, Alaska

4 out of 5
An interesting little town. We took the duck tour and enjoyed seeing the town and harbor. It was fun to watch the seals chase the salmon in the creek that runs through the middle of town.

Juneau, Alaska

3 out of 5
We did not care for the town of Juneau itself and the bus tour that we took was not very good. However, this port was worth the stop to see Mendenhall Glacier. In every port, there seems to be multiple jewelry stores on every block. How much jewelry do people need?? It tended to detract from the charm of some of our port stops.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
We liked Skagway a lot as the town buildings still had a lot of that Yukon gold rush character to them. We took the White Pass Railway excursion and that was definitely a highlight of the trip.

Victoria, British Columbia

5 out of 5
We really enjoyed Victoria and took a pedicab which provided us with a great overview of this picturesque town for the short period of time we were there. Wish we could have spent more time there.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
This was extremely smooth. Since we had an early flight out of Seattle, we took advantage of Princess' offer to forward our luggage straight to the airport. Outstanding service!

Was you able to cruise thru Tracy Arm Fjord? We did the inside passage 2x on Ruby Princess and wasn't able to cruise due to ice in Sept. 2015, and due too heavy fog in August 2016, we are going back in September 2018 on Emerald and hope the 3rd time will be the one we get to go thru!!

Another trifecta winner! First cruise, Emerald Princess, and Alaska. You know how to pick a perfect combination. Glad you enjoyed everything.
