Disney Wonder Cruise without children by glenmore

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

we booked onto the three night cruise out of port canaveral on the Disney Wonder ship. I did worry as it's Disney, and we were booking without children...

I had been told that the cruise was just as good for adults as for families.. and how right they were.. from the moment we got into the building ready to board, we picked up on the efficiency of the cruise line... Once on the ship, wow... the emotions hit.. it is a beautiful ship.

Our room was a double with a sea view, and it was very spacious with plenty of cupboard space.. I liked the idea of a separate bath/shower to the toilet.

The food was amazing, even more so for me as I'm gluten and lactose intolerant.. nothing was any trouble.

The adult pool pool was a good size with two hot tubs, bar with waiter service and at certain times, fantastic entertainment from a great singer.  We did join the families for the sail away party.. great fun..

The shows were out of this world, I was engrossed, they might have been Disney themed, but the best shows I have ever seen.. From the actors to the production, it was faultless.

Entertainment offered in one of the pubs.. really enjoyed the 80's music quiz.. and the couples quiz in a different club..

We stayed on the ship at Nassau, as we just wanted to chill by the pool, but got off and really enjoyed Castaway Cey.. A beautiful island..

considering my husband had concerns booking this short cruise, he now feels he would love to do a longer cruise with DCL..

First time cruiser by tabeb

Booked Disney cruise for our very first cruise, did not disappoint. Kudos to all the crew member, from the person who clean our room twice a day, wait staff, servers and just everybody , they were marvelous. I'm a picky traveler,  and my experience exceeded all my expectation (in the cruise ship, not impressed with the atlantis tour).

This was our first cruise... by Carrie1074

Sail date: /
Ship: Disney Wonder

This was our first cruise ever! We loved it! The ship was amazing and very clean. The crew was fantastic! We had excellent meals and service. We also enjoyed the shows. Unfortunately, we didn't use the pools/hot tubs much because the weather was cool or we were busy doing other things. We loved Castaway Cay. It is beautiful. The island is very clean and there is a lot to do. The lunch was very good. If we had a choice, we would skip out on going to Nassau and do 2 days on Castaway Cay. We did an excursion on each island and they weren't bad, but we would probably do something different next time, or just skip excursions. Our whole experience from beginning to end was perfect. DCL was organized and the process was easy. We highly recommend DCL - Wonder!

it was our first cruise ever. We had an amazing experience with Disney Cruise Lines.  The ship was extremely clean and well kept.  The crew was very pleasant and helpful.  We had plenty of activities to choose from. It we could change one thing, it would be to spend 2 days on Castaway Cay and skip Nassau.

Ship: Disney Wonder

I've been on many cruises and this was my first Disney cruise. I now understand why it's so much more money. The service was impeccable. The food was delicious and the entertainment top notch. From playing Disney music around the ship to interacting with characters and going to their private island it is truly a magical experience.

Amazing Family Holiday by Strouthfamily

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

My husband and I travelled with our daughter and granddaughter for 3 days on the Disney Wonder.  From the moment we arrived we knew we were going to have a good time.   We had a 12:30 pm check in and it went fast and easy.  Our rooms were ready for us by 1:30 pm.  The 4  of us shared a ocean view room and there was plenty of room for all of us.  The food was amazing!  We ate breakfast and lunch in the Cabana buffet and dinners were in each of the 3 theme dining rooms.  During the day most of our time was spent around the pool.  There were 2 pools, both of which were fairly small.  Unfortunately, the pool with the water slide was not available during most of the cruise due to repairs.  Our 9 yr old grand daughter was disappointed.  We enjoyed our day on Castaway Cay.  The island is large, very clean and the lunch buffet was wonderful with plenty of BBQ choices.  It was nice that the picnic area is covered as it rained for a brief time.  Although, we signed my granddaughter for the group activities she spent most of her time with us.  One observation was that most of the children in the activitity centre were younger than her.  I believe the age group is 3 - 12.   We took her to the Bibity Bobity Salon to have her Hair, make up and nails done and she loved the pampering.  Unfortunately, the only appointment we could get was the same day as we were getting off the ship to go swimming on Castaway Cay.  Needless to say, her hair and make up only lasted an hour.  Disembarking the final morning was very well organized, quick and easy.

Extremely disappointed by Zainy

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Took a Disney wonder 3 night cruise on march 30th to Bahamas with husband and 2 kids 16 and 12 yr old . It was our first cruise and all of us were extremely disappointed . We went to Disney world and Disney land 3 times so I wanted something different . I really regret and think if I spent that much money and went to Disney land , kids would have enjoyed a lot .  There wasn't anything on the ship for 12-16 year olds or for adults . All of us were  bored to death .  Everything was awful , the service , crew , room , specially activities and entertainment.

I wouldn't recommend Disney cruise to kids especially older than 10 years . Pls save your money and go to Disney parks . Atleast your kids will enjoy there.

This was a wonderful experience. Disney perfect from the cabin to the characters. Food in the restaurants was top notch.and the entertainment was broadway quality. The private was whatever you wanted; lots of activity or calm and quiet on Serenity beach. The highlight for me was pirate night. I had made costumes for myself and my husband.

My son said it was... by weezel214

Sail date: /
Ship: Disney Wonder

My son said it was the best vacation ever! First Disney cruise and wife is already planning another one. Food was great, service was awesome, activities for my 8 year old kept him highly entertained. Only downside for us were the inability to port at Grand Caymen because of weather and the port at Falmouth, Jamaica. I am sure there are awesome excursions in Jamaica but most of them were 1 hour away. We chose a shorter trip to Montego Bay and were disappointed with the beach at Doctors Cove. Perhaps it was the continued rough weather but the water was muddy and not the clear water we were expecting. I also found the drink and food prices higher than anticipated but cheaper than the cruise ship. I would also recommend Disney to review their Internet rates and Shutters charges. Perhaps they are in line with other cruise lines but it would have been nice to check in with work without having to pay $100 for the option. As for Shutters, I would have been happy to buy digital prints but not for $20 apiece. I would guess they would sell more if they considered a reduction. With that being said, they were very good about taking picture with our iPhone at the Character meetings. I would highly recommend the Disney Wonder but suggest reviewing the ports before booking.

Our 1st Cruise Aboard the Disney Wonder by CruzLineParadox

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This was our 1st time to the Caribbean/Bahamas area. We had previously taken a cruise aboard the Magic to the North Sea area of Europe and had thoroughly enjoyed that cruise, so we decided to try out the Wonder after it's recent refurbishment. In fact, we were the 3rd cruise of the post refurb era. They were still installing items that didn't get installed during the refurb or on the previous 2 cruises since then. For instance, they were assembling brand new ping pong tables on day 2 of our cruise, so the 1st 2 cruises before us made do without them. In truth, it wasn't a refurb, more of a upgrade. Improvements were made in several areas, but surprisingly, maintenance was not part of the upgrade. We found several detail things that were broken, not working correctly, or just worn out (flickering lights, burned out bulbs, plugged shower heads, etc). The improvements included an expanded Spa area, which now includes a full barber & expanded beauty salon area, a teeth whitening station, the new Frozen show (which we saw on the Magic in June), new color schemes/decor/carpeting/lighting, a dedicated/isolated walkway connecting the Oceaneer's Club & Oceaneer's Lab, the adults night life area was re-themed/updated, and one of the restaurants re-themed Tiana's Place. Overall, it was very similar to the Magic, so it didn't take us too long to settle in since we knew where everything was located. Since this was a 7 night voyage in the warm Caribbean area (vs. the 12 night North Sea cold), it became very apparent that this was more of a resort style cruise - pool time, beach excursions, more night time outside activities. The Pirate Night festivities was loud & fun with the fireworks capping off the event and it seemed like their were more kids activities going on at any one given time. The North Sea cruise seemed more excursion based with the time on the ship used to recuperate from the daily activities off-ship (which focused more on sightseeing than resort type activities). This was a more youth oriented cruise and we found that 7 nights was just about right for us on this trip. Long enough to unpack & enjoy, yet not too short that you found yourself unpacking one day & packing up in what seemed like the next day that one feels on a 3 or 4 night trip.

The food was it's usual Disney Cruise fare, which kept us looking forward each night to what the chefs were coming up with on the next dinner menu. You have to be adventurous  each night as the menu items are not what is expected in your typical family restaurant. We ate in Palo one night, which is something everyone should try, unless you only like meat and potatoes every dinner. Just remember to come hungry & have an open mind for new cuisine. The 7 night sailings allows you to try everything from the restaurant food to the buffet, to the on deck food service. On the 12 night cruise, we didn't try the on deck food (except the soft serve ice cream), so on this trip, we made an effort to try everything - pizzas, hamburgers, shawarmas, soup, salads, wraps, you name it, whatever was served on deck and it wasn't bad at all.

SPOILER ALERT: If you've never eaten @ Animator's Palate and seen the SHOW, stop reading now so you can enjoy this must see event.

The only disappointment was the Animators Palate show. Our table was broadcast on the wrong screen, so none of us got to see our drawings come to life. We did see other drawings, so we got the idea of what happens to everybody's drawings, but it was disappointing not to see your own artwork on the big screen. Disney should figure out a way for each guest to take home a copy of the show for repeated viewings @ home.

Our stateroom was on deck 5 (5628), near the rear. It had a farely quiet hallway (except the last night, when the room across decided to race up & down the halls @ 11:30pm - thanks alot kids (and parents for not controlling said kids). It was close to the rear elevators, but far enough away that the noise was never a factor. This stateroom must have been close to the washer, because every morning @ 5 am or so, I could hear them start up and run. I never noticed the noise on my previous cruise, but we were one deck up in approximately the same spot on the ship (6620). We had 3 adults on this trip and their was enough room inside to not feel cramped when we were all in the cabin. We even had enough drawer space for all our clothes, although we did use the desk for clothes. This stateroom had a refrigerator, which I never noticed on the Magic. Paul was our cabin steward & he did a great job of taking care of us, even changing towels twice a day (once in the morning and once when he turned down the beds).

We embarked/disembarked in Galveston, which accounted for the extra days @ sea since it was a fair distance to the Key West/Castaway Cay/Bahamas ports, but we enjoyed the extra time on board to see the shows, participate in the trivia contests, attend seminars, etc. Getting on board was quick and easy. Large crowds, but handled well by the Disney staff. Getting off was just the opposite. Large crowds and no where to put them. We waited about an hour in line to get off, but once off, finding our luggage & going through customs was a breeze (1st timers take a hint, make your suitcase VERY distinguishable from a distance, you have no idea how many suitcases are waiting to be picked up in the terminal - and they all look the same). Compared to our cruise on the Magic, getting on and off was just the opposite. On our Magic cruise, there were long lines to get on whereas getting off was easy, but getting our luggage was hard (couldn't find one piece because it was in the wrong place) as was going through customs.

Excursions & ports of call. We wish we could have spent more time in Key West (only there 4 hours). We could easily have spent a full day or more there to see the sights and try a few restaurants. The Cuban coffee was good and everywhere serves Key Lime something (pie, soda, tea, etc.). Castaway Cay was a full 8 hours, but we could have spent another 1/2 day there. Fun fact : all the food, utensils, plates, and food service people come off the ship and is then reloaded on the ship at the end of the day - what an operation. Nassau was a full day, but again more time is needed here as well to really get a good look at the city and it's people. The Bahamans that we met on our short stay there were very friendly and always ready to party.

As a whole, this trip aboard the Wonder was too short. It was a good way to get a taste of what cruising is about and just makes us want to do it again to get to experience the stuff we didn't get to do while making us want to go back to the places we visited to spend more time there as a separate vacation. Just remember to pack the sunscreen. Lots of it.

Best cruise ever. by Sims1809

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We have just returned from a 4 night cruise from Galveston to Cozumel and Disney was by far the best cruise line we gave ever sailed with. My daughter is in a wheelchair and the entire crew from maintence to the captain were the most friendly and accomdating people that we have ever come across. The restaurants are great, the same wait staff follows you every night and the Palo is beyond words. If you have children or even if you do not, give Disney a try, I promise you will not be disappointed. We are planning a new cruise through the Panama Canal with Disney and cannot wait to get it booked.

Third Time As Good As The First by gremorr

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

My wife and I made our first ever cruise aboard the Disney Wonder on the Alaska itinerary in August 2014. That trip was amazing, and hooked us on the joys of cruising forever. We followed that first trip up with our second in August 2015 aboard the Disney Magic on its 7 night Western Mediterranean itinerary. For 2016 we wanted to treat our daughter and her new husband to a cruise adventure, and the best one we could think of was Disney's Alaska trip. So, less than two years later we found ourselves once again touching down in the beautiful city of Vancouver, B.C. with renewed excitement and anticipation of the week before us.

Disney did not disappoint. In fact, having now been on three cruises with the Mouse and Co. aboard basically the same ship (the Magic and the Wonder are very similar) I am quite amazed at how consistently perfect the experiences have been. Everything we loved on the first cruise in 2014 was there in 2015 and again in 2016. At no point did we ever find ourselves thinking anything negative, i.e. this was better last time or why did they change that or I wish they would have stuck with this rather than change it. The service was exemplary, the dining without flaw, the entertainment as expected. The Wonder was as clean and maintained as we remembered, and we continue to value her classically elegant design aspects. She is a beautiful vessel, particularly when docked next to several other cruise lines at the various port calls. None compare to the Wonder, even smaller ships from the luxury class lines. I was always proud to wonder the port stops with my Castaway Club backpack, and was often asked by people from the other cruise line ships about how it was to cruise aboard Disney's ship.

I must give a shout out to Peter Hofer who has been our Cruise Director on all three of our adventures. Cruise Director Peter can single you out from 3,000 other guests and make you feel as welcome as if he were hosting you in his own home. Now, I realize my sphere of comparison is nil, but I would be perfectly happy if Peter was the CD on every cruise I ever take!

When we first experienced the rotational dining plan practiced on the Disney Cruise Line we were completely enthralled with it. The familiarity one experiences with the Head Server, Server and Assistant Server is what the plan is all about. Okay, the food is important, but it would really be just good food without the servers. We looked forward to each night knowing we had a set time to dine, a set table to eat at and the same people taking care of us for the entire week. Moving among the three main dining rooms is fun and adds to the variety. After the first cruise we did wonder if the experience could be duplicated the following year, and it absolutely was even with a different set of servers. Our third cruise was more of the same. How Disney can find and train servers to be so consistently friendly and attentive and personable is amazing. I've read some horror reviews over the last two years that have made me appreciate our experience so much more and to be further amazed at the consistency from year to year and ship to ship.

And then there is the Room Steward! All three cruises have introduced us to the most wonderful person who could ever look after our room. Three different times we have made a new friend from some far off point. This year we met Grenville from India who was always there with a smile and time to chat. Our room was always immaculate and any request granted immediately.

The only thing left to say is that we will have a difficult time trying another cruise line other than Disney, which worries me a little because they only have four ships and two of them are always in the Caribbean which isn't one of our desired destinations. I understand there are two new ship targeted for delivery in 2022 or so which may open up some more itineraries. I also understand the Wonder is going into dry dock in Cadiz, Spain at the end of this year's Alaska run for a significant overhaul. I will definitely look forward to reconnecting with her a third time, perhaps sometime in 2017.

I know I haven't said much about the port stops or the scenery along the route. It is amazing. I did wonder if I would be disappointed the second time around by feeling all "been there, done that" about the trip, but I was not at all. When you think about it chances are you are not going to go out on deck at exactly the same times each time you do the itinerary so you are bound to see different bits of scenery each time. You can always do a different excursion in the port stops, or, as with us, you just like to stay on the ship during some then you just enjoy the ship's amenities anyway. I will say the Alaska trip is quite different from the Med in that you are never out of sight of land on the Alaska run so there is always something to see and be amazed by. While sailing across the Med with no land in sight at times is equally amazing, it is different.
