Hey cruisers! Whether you love... by travelforthejoy

Ship: Disney Wonder

Hey cruisers! Whether you love Disney or you love cruising, you will love this ship. And you donā€™t have to have kids or sail with kids to enjoy Disney Cruise Line. Ok so after cruising on the Dream 4 times out of port Canaveral, we decided to try the Wonder for a 2 night sailing out of San Diego which is in our backyard. Being a little skeptical as the Wonder is a smaller ship than the Dream and older too, We LOVED this cruise. From the breathtaking chandelier in the atrium, to the feels of New Orleans at Tianas Place Restaurant, to the amazing Broadway caliber shows, the fireworks at sea for Pirates in the Caribbean night, to having Mickey show up at dinner in Animators Palate Restaurant and the Adult Only Pool and spas that are pure bliss, this 2 night cruise packed a punch of surprises and delight for us adults. We sailed to celebrate Motherā€™s Day with myself(37), my mom(57) and grams(81) so NO KIDS. This is our 3rd Disney sailing without kids. 5th total with 2 sailings including kids. Let me say that Disney truly delivers an exceptional experience for adults, catering to the details and ensuring you get to totally escape for the precious time you have in the Adults only Area whether itā€™s a couple hours or a couple days(in our case). The cabins our well layed out with plenty of storage, most having 2 bathrooms(1 with sink & bathtub & 1 with sink and toilet) and the bedroom can be separated from the living room by a privacy curtain which is really nice. They offer portable phones in every cabin so you can keep in touch with your family while cruising at no charge. There is the Walt Disney Theatre that shows first run movies, we saw the Avengers Age of Ultron in 3D onboard which was opening wknd for this blockbuster movie on land. They include soda onboard at no additional charge unless you order through room service(then a charge applies). The bars are plentiful and serve up delicious cocktails at a very reasonable price. On a budget, donā€™t worry Disney allows you to carry on a 6 pack of beer or a bottle of wine or champagne per adult, over 21, sailing. I highly recommend the espresso martini or a glass of Chandon ice. Delicious! They also serve up the famous Dole Whip(frozen pineapple soft serve that is served at all Disney parks) you can score this delicious treat by itself or spiced up as a cocktail with rum or spirits. Also one of our favorite room service items to order and a MUST on any sailing, are the cheese & fruit plate and the Mickey ice cream bars. Treat your self. You will not be disappointed. The decor is very upscale and I would describe it as nautical nostalgic with a vibe of cruising when sailing the seas was glamorous and for the ultra elite. The Adult only pool and spa provided much relaxation and you must be 18 or over to enjoy. There are 2 hot tubs that sit elevated on each side of the pool, a bar, showers and plenty of lux lounge chairs and seating for those looking to just chill. They have great drink service as well. The shows were AMAZING and yes they are Disney themed but the special effects, singing, acting and stage sets are so spectacular that EVERYONE will enjoy. The dining is so unique, in that you get to dine in a different restaurant each night but your wait staff travels with you. This creates a very personalized experience with your waiters greeting you each night in a different setting but still knowing exactly what your preferences are. The food on this ship was exceptional and everything was cooked and served exactly as ordered. Service was great and fun! The waiters dress in different themed outfits each night to match the restaurant youā€™re dining in and the food is themed as well. Tianas Place for example serves NOLA themed buttermilk beignets for dessert. At dinner in animators palate, all the screens come to life with Disney animation and Mickey shows up to take control and direct the animation. In Tianas Place there is a live jazz band with Tiana singing and dancing and leading a good ole naā€™leans parade. Tritons place is a more formal feel, catering to royals alike. Disney is the ONLY cruise line that does fireworks at sea and this is NOT to be missed. Disney will provide you a pirate themed bandanna to don for this deck party spectacular but you will also see fellow cruises dressed in pirate garb. Mickey ultimately wins but only after ziplining down to take back the ship from Captain Hook. Fireworks explode over the dark skies, lighting it up with colorful displays inciting oohhhs and aahhhs from all hands on deck. The food options for breakfast and lunch are plentiful with room service timed to your liking, buffet with fresh, made to order options, a deli, pizza, a Mediterranean station, ice cream a plenty, burgers and dogs and fresh fruits and salads. You will not go hungry on this ship. There is also the Cove Cafe which is a coffee shop/ wine bar / bar that is in the Adult only area. This place serves light fare all day long but also brews up some very unique coffee and espresso concoctions. They offer a nice quiet seating area with magazines and a lot of Disney memorabilia. This ship is very easy to navigate and even though itā€™s smaller than the Dream which weā€™d previously sailed on, we never felt that it was smaller or lacked any convenience or offering of the bigger ships. Except however in the area of the Spa, this was the only disappointment of the cruise. We always get spa passes to the rainforest when sailing with Disney but the spa on this ship pales in comparison to the Dream. Donā€™t waste your money on the day passes. The rainforest themed showers are cold, the heated lounge chairs are always in use or have dirty towels occupying them. The quiet area and dry sauna in the womanā€™s locker room is perfectly positioned under the basketball courts on the deck above which offers NO Zen. We expressed our disappointment to the manager of the spa but were only met with a ā€œthanks for sharing your experience and we appreciate your feedbackā€ response. Unfortunately For gamblers, there is NO CASINO onboard which I understand is a drawback but with s the entertainment and adult only areas, you donā€™t even realize itā€™s missing and trust me a black jack lover. The AFTER-HOURS section of the ship is an ADULT ONLY AREA offering a British themed crown n fin pub, a Cadillac inspired and themed lounge and piano bar and a nightclub that also showcases comedians, singers, bands and illusionists. All in all this was a great getaway cruise that allowed us to experience a new ship and celebrate some much needed adult only time. We tried our best to sleep as little as possible and pack everything into this 2 night sailing. We disembarked this ship refreshed and ready to book the Wonder again. Tip-Disney offers one of the best return cruising offers at sea. $250 future cruise deposit to be used within 2 years of your sailing, securing you 10% off rates with an onboard credit of at least $100 on 3 night or more sailing. Needless to say we are already booked for May 12th 2019. I would recommend this cruise to EVERYONE-all ages, families, couples, girls only trip, seniors, disabled and the young at heart, especially first time cruisers. This is not the newest and biggest ship but it delivers a great cruise that will leave you wanting more and ready to book again. Yes Disney is more expensive than all the other cruise lines but I promise that once you cruise with them, you will understand why. They just deliver the most exceptional, consistent and memorable experience on the high seas. Itā€™s that Disney Magic or maybe itā€™s the pixie dust. Either way Iā€™m sold and will continue to sail this line for a guaranteed magical cruise experience that truly feels like a dream come true. With some wishing on a star and if you can sail on off peak times, you can sail on this line for a reasonable price.

Another great Disney Cruise by cofireman

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Mexico

This was our 8th Disney Cruise, and our 4th with no children. Disney is simply amazing. Embarkation/Disembarkation was a breeze, even simpler than at Port Canaveral. The Wonder Is one of four beautiful ships. Can't wait till our next cruise.

Just came back from the 14 night West bound Panama Canal Cruise . We had an amazing vacation onboard the classic ship . The dining experience was great, Cabanas is always fresh and good . The Disney broadway are excellent . We saw 11 different entertainment shows in the Walt Disney Theater. Some very good and other just OK. The service on the ship is wonderful. The itinerary is to be experienced once in a lifetime.

Ship: Disney Wonder

Just sailed on our 2nd Disney cruise 4/1-4/5/18 on Disney Wonder We had 12 people 3 cabins The cabin steward Herold was wonderful, the ship had been refurbished, but overall the 1 st cruise on Disney Dream Thanksgiving week 2014 was by far superior in every way I was surprised on the Wonder to see how small the pool was, Vanu, Desmond and Salome were good but the service ,the food everything did not compare. We had 15 people on the Dream and after the first night the head waiter and all staff remembered everything and all the grandchildrenā€™s likes, my spouses allergy to wine Disney does a wonderful job but the Dream was just an unbelievable experience compared to the Wonder The characters are now at stations with tremendous lines , they didnā€™t appreciate being stopped for autographs

Ship: Disney Wonder

As much as I have been on cruises, Disney disappointed me a lot, for how much money you spend on a Disney cruise there should be a higher expectation. Our room steward was amazing and so was the Palo waiter. Everyone else was rude, or acted like they didnā€™t care. Our shower was broken for 3 days.. they couldnā€™t seem to fix the problem until the last day on the cruise. The food was not good, except for Palo.. I asked for Belgian waffles in the dinning room and received eggo waffles, and yes I have a picture of everything that happened. We were very disappointed in how Disney handled everything.

The Disney wonder was our first cruise and it was amazing. Everyone from the bartender to the head waiter made sure that everyone was having a great time. My sister even got an award from the guest services for being a great passenger and making the cast members day šŸ˜€. We have been truly spoiled by this cruise and canā€™t wait to go on another

My best friend and I... by jsoanderson

Ship: Disney Wonder

My best friend and I celebrated our 40th birthdays onboard the Disney Wonder. I had never cruised before so I have nothing to compare it to. With that said, I had a great time! The ship is absolutely stunning! There was plenty to do for adults traveling without children. We met some fantastic people who also left their children home. We really enjoyed trivia in the Crown and Fin Pub. Azure Nightclub was a fun venue for various adult only events. The Quiet Cove adults only pool area was so peaceful. Food was so good in all the restaurants. I love the rotational dining, where you are assigned to a different restaurant each night and your wait staff travels with you! We also took advantage of the up charge restaurant, Palo, to celebrate our birthdays. Totally worth the extra $30! Cabanas buffet was great for breakfast. Shows were so good. Disney themed of course! So magical! I mean who doesnā€™t love to catch a glimpse of their favorite Disney character every now and again?! Love that you can get free soda all day long at self serve machines. And self serve soft serve ice cream!! There are only 2 small gift shops and no casino but that was fine by me. We had a room with a veranda. For just the 2 of us the room was HUGE! Loved the 2-room bathroom. One room was toilet & sink, other room was shower & sink. You can separate the living area from sleeping area with a curtain. Our sailing was a repositioning cruise from Galveston, Texas to San Juan, Puerto Rico with one stop in Falmouth, Jamaica. We went Bobsledding & to Dunns River Falls in Ocho Rios - so fun! We spent an extra day in San Juan (before flying back home to New York) and took advantage of a city tour. San Juan was beautiful! No one does customer service like Disney!

The Disney Wonder is magical!... by Subabe

Sail date: /
Ship: Disney Wonder

The Disney Wonder is magical! It's the only Disney ship I've been on. So I can only compare it to other cruise lines. I went for Halloween and Christmas. Going to experience Halloween again this year because it was fantastic. First, the room. We usually book the interior rooms. They are less expensive and that way we can book more cruises with the money we save. I'm use to interior rooms being small and kind of like a hallway, long and narrow. The room was big, in my opinion. A big square, one bed was also a couch and so we had a sitting area which was nice. If you request a wake up call, as I did...it's Mickey that wakes you up! It was a nice surprise. I never use shampoo or conditioner that the cruise lines offer, but I can use these. They are very nice. The beds have these drapes that can be opened or closed. It's nice because it adds an extra changing area. I loved that the stateroom played Disney movies. Fun to watch while getting ready for activities. Next, the dining options. In my opinion, it's the best buffet style dining on any ship I've ever been on. They have a big pile of shrimp cocktail and crab legs! The desserts are yummy. On other cruise lines, I feel like the desserts are very processed. But, not Disney. The pumpkin pie was so good. The buffet is clean and bright. I LOVE that they have a hand washing station before you walk in. Other cruise lines want to give you hand sanitizer. I don't like leaving chemicals on my hands before I eat. I usually skip the soft serve on ships because it's not good. But, my family convinced me to try it after our second cruise and they were right. Delicious! Banana was the best. Then you have the roational dining at dinner. Tiana's place was my favorite. The beignets were better then Disneyland or New Orleans. They ruined me for wanting them from anywhere else. I loved the jazz band at Tiana's playing Disney music. The other restaurants we're good too. But, I felt like aside from the buffet, Princess had better overall food. As for activities, we had almost too much to do. The slide wasn't even crowed on sea days. We played trivia every chance we could. We racked up a ton of šŸ…'s. We are competitive in this area, so it was fun! The azure lounge had many interactive games that were hilarious. We won many prizes. Two bags, a calendar, luggage tags, hats, a journal and a special pin. I loved pirate night, the fireworks, Zipline Mickey, the fact that they give you a Mickey pirate bandana. The shows were second to none. They had an A capella group on board for Christmas. They were so good. We saw every performance and I bought their Christmas album. I love that the theater plays first run movies. We saw The Last Jedi and Coco on the ship. We toured the kids club and saw the Toy Story room. A true fantasy!....Now for the not so fun things. It would almost be impossible to have a perfect time without glitches. So I'm keeping them in perspective. First, I thought the magic show was too sensual for a Disney cruise. There's a time and place, but this wasn't it. Next, our waiter got my son's order wrong at dinner every single night. My son took it personally. Things happen. It's unfortunate. An explanation was never given, maybe there was a glitch in the process and he was confused with someone at another table. We'll never know. I didn't realize it until after the third day when my son spoke up to me. So I was going to say something on the fourth day. But, after we ordered on the fourth day, it took over an hour to actually get our food. On the last day he just ate what he was given. Hahaha. It was an unusual experience. No way to prevent these kind of things, so certainly not letting it ruin the memories of the trip. Of course we laugh about it now. And no, he wasn't requesting anything special. Lastly, as we got off the ship, I was informed that one piece of my luggage fell over board. Bummer! This was my 18th cruise. My second Disney. Never thought about what if that happened. I did sign something saying that I wouldn't discuss the details. All I can say is that it was stressful. I lost all my shoes and make-up. If you look when you sign up for the cruise you agree that if they damage your stuff in any way they pay you a small fee and send you on your way. It was disappointing. But, I did learn a valuable lesson. I am now going to carry on all my luggage. It's an inconvenience. But, worth it in my opinion. Just something to think about. That's why I'm mentioning that situation. I still love all things Disney. You can't get away from the human error factors of life, just plan for them. We made special memories along with the crazy. The luggage situation is my only reason for 4 stars instead of 5.
