Sail date: /Ship: Disney Wonder
Hey cruisers! Whether you love Disney or you love cruising, you will love this ship. And you donāt have to have kids or sail with kids to enjoy Disney Cruise Line. Ok so after cruising on the Dream 4 times out of port Canaveral, we decided to try the Wonder for a 2 night sailing out of San Diego which is in our backyard. Being a little skeptical as the Wonder is a smaller ship than the Dream and older too, We LOVED this cruise. From the breathtaking chandelier in the atrium, to the feels of New Orleans at Tianas Place Restaurant, to the amazing Broadway caliber shows, the fireworks at sea for Pirates in the Caribbean night, to having Mickey show up at dinner in Animators Palate Restaurant and the Adult Only Pool and spas that are pure bliss, this 2 night cruise packed a punch of surprises and delight for us adults. We sailed to celebrate Motherās Day with myself(37), my mom(57) and grams(81) so NO KIDS. This is our 3rd Disney sailing without kids. 5th total with 2 sailings including kids. Let me say that Disney truly delivers an exceptional experience for adults, catering to the details and ensuring you get to totally escape for the precious time you have in the Adults only Area whether itās a couple hours or a couple days(in our case). The cabins our well layed out with plenty of storage, most having 2 bathrooms(1 with sink & bathtub & 1 with sink and toilet) and the bedroom can be separated from the living room by a privacy curtain which is really nice. They offer portable phones in every cabin so you can keep in touch with your family while cruising at no charge. There is the Walt Disney Theatre that shows first run movies, we saw the Avengers Age of Ultron in 3D onboard which was opening wknd for this blockbuster movie on land. They include soda onboard at no additional charge unless you order through room service(then a charge applies). The bars are plentiful and serve up delicious cocktails at a very reasonable price. On a budget, donāt worry Disney allows you to carry on a 6 pack of beer or a bottle of wine or champagne per adult, over 21, sailing. I highly recommend the espresso martini or a glass of Chandon ice. Delicious! They also serve up the famous Dole Whip(frozen pineapple soft serve that is served at all Disney parks) you can score this delicious treat by itself or spiced up as a cocktail with rum or spirits. Also one of our favorite room service items to order and a MUST on any sailing, are the cheese & fruit plate and the Mickey ice cream bars. Treat your self. You will not be disappointed. The decor is very upscale and I would describe it as nautical nostalgic with a vibe of cruising when sailing the seas was glamorous and for the ultra elite. The Adult only pool and spa provided much relaxation and you must be 18 or over to enjoy. There are 2 hot tubs that sit elevated on each side of the pool, a bar, showers and plenty of lux lounge chairs and seating for those looking to just chill. They have great drink service as well. The shows were AMAZING and yes they are Disney themed but the special effects, singing, acting and stage sets are so spectacular that EVERYONE will enjoy. The dining is so unique, in that you get to dine in a different restaurant each night but your wait staff travels with you. This creates a very personalized experience with your waiters greeting you each night in a different setting but still knowing exactly what your preferences are. The food on this ship was exceptional and everything was cooked and served exactly as ordered. Service was great and fun! The waiters dress in different themed outfits each night to match the restaurant youāre dining in and the food is themed as well. Tianas Place for example serves NOLA themed buttermilk beignets for dessert. At dinner in animators palate, all the screens come to life with Disney animation and Mickey shows up to take control and direct the animation. In Tianas Place there is a live jazz band with Tiana singing and dancing and leading a good ole naāleans parade. Tritons place is a more formal feel, catering to royals alike. Disney is the ONLY cruise line that does fireworks at sea and this is NOT to be missed. Disney will provide you a pirate themed bandanna to don for this deck party spectacular but you will also see fellow cruises dressed in pirate garb. Mickey ultimately wins but only after ziplining down to take back the ship from Captain Hook. Fireworks explode over the dark skies, lighting it up with colorful displays inciting oohhhs and aahhhs from all hands on deck. The food options for breakfast and lunch are plentiful with room service timed to your liking, buffet with fresh, made to order options, a deli, pizza, a Mediterranean station, ice cream a plenty, burgers and dogs and fresh fruits and salads. You will not go hungry on this ship. There is also the Cove Cafe which is a coffee shop/ wine bar / bar that is in the Adult only area. This place serves light fare all day long but also brews up some very unique coffee and espresso concoctions. They offer a nice quiet seating area with magazines and a lot of Disney memorabilia. This ship is very easy to navigate and even though itās smaller than the Dream which weād previously sailed on, we never felt that it was smaller or lacked any convenience or offering of the bigger ships. Except however in the area of the Spa, this was the only disappointment of the cruise. We always get spa passes to the rainforest when sailing with Disney but the spa on this ship pales in comparison to the Dream. Donāt waste your money on the day passes. The rainforest themed showers are cold, the heated lounge chairs are always in use or have dirty towels occupying them. The quiet area and dry sauna in the womanās locker room is perfectly positioned under the basketball courts on the deck above which offers NO Zen. We expressed our disappointment to the manager of the spa but were only met with a āthanks for sharing your experience and we appreciate your feedbackā response. Unfortunately For gamblers, there is NO CASINO onboard which I understand is a drawback but with s the entertainment and adult only areas, you donāt even realize itās missing and trust me a black jack lover. The AFTER-HOURS section of the ship is an ADULT ONLY AREA offering a British themed crown n fin pub, a Cadillac inspired and themed lounge and piano bar and a nightclub that also showcases comedians, singers, bands and illusionists. All in all this was a great getaway cruise that allowed us to experience a new ship and celebrate some much needed adult only time. We tried our best to sleep as little as possible and pack everything into this 2 night sailing. We disembarked this ship refreshed and ready to book the Wonder again. Tip-Disney offers one of the best return cruising offers at sea. $250 future cruise deposit to be used within 2 years of your sailing, securing you 10% off rates with an onboard credit of at least $100 on 3 night or more sailing. Needless to say we are already booked for May 12th 2019. I would recommend this cruise to EVERYONE-all ages, families, couples, girls only trip, seniors, disabled and the young at heart, especially first time cruisers. This is not the newest and biggest ship but it delivers a great cruise that will leave you wanting more and ready to book again. Yes Disney is more expensive than all the other cruise lines but I promise that once you cruise with them, you will understand why. They just deliver the most exceptional, consistent and memorable experience on the high seas. Itās that Disney Magic or maybe itās the pixie dust. Either way Iām sold and will continue to sail this line for a guaranteed magical cruise experience that truly feels like a dream come true. With some wishing on a star and if you can sail on off peak times, you can sail on this line for a reasonable price.
