Review summary

Our first time on Discovery Princess. Really nice ship! Décor is much better than on older Grand Class ships. This was a quick getaway. We missed several inches of rain and an earthquake, so goo timing!

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Had our Medallions, so check in was a breeze.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
We generally eat all meals at the buffet. All in all, good selection and quality.

The Ocean Terrace

5 out of 5

Exellent Sushi, prepared by Mart.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We didn't use, but others seemed to enjoy.

Casino

3 out of 5

We don't smoke but realize that the games we like are on the smoking side. We've been in close proximity to smokers on other Royal Class ships and weren't bothered. On Discovery, there is no opening to Deck 7 so the smoke had no where to go.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Great entertainment! We felt the show, Rock Opera, got too much hype. Spotlight Bar, however, was the best Production Show we've seen in our 19 Princess Cruises. A big change is... Nightly comedy in the Vista Lounge. We really enjoy Carnival for their Punchliner Comedy. Hoping they continue with nightly comedy, but does interfere with shows in the Princess Theater. Comedian Phil Tab was hilarious. There was a couple, Cola Sounds, that were great! Had a great rapport with passengers.

Children's Programs

No kids

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everyone was fantastic, as usual.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Newest active ship in the Princess Fleet. Really nice! Only issue was the lack of ventilation in the casino.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Princess staterooms are laid out very well. Mamran kept it nice and clean.

Ship tip

Relax and enjoy.

Ports of call

San Pedro (Los Angeles), California Did not visit port

We live 1/2 hour from the port.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico Did not visit port

We go on this itinerary frequently, so didn't want to hassle with the Tenders.

Mazatlan, Mexico

5 out of 5
We took the tram to the shops at the port. Both my wife and I had a great half hour massage and saved about $400.00 at the ships spa...

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

5 out of 5
We walked across to the Vallarta Mall to walk around. Sure wish Princess, or the town itself, would provide shuttle service to the Malecon.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Facial Recognition at the port really speeds up the process.
