Review summary

Overall, the cruise wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t our best one either. We only had Carnival to compare to and this cruise made us appreciate Carnival more. Just for the record, we are not rowdy partiers either. We are 53 and 60 so not exactly young either. We missed seeing all ages and types of people. This cruise was majority older white and Asian people, probably 70 and up. Everyone was really nice, but we missed all the activity we are used to. We even saw people sleeping in public lol. We probably won’t cruise Princess again.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Not enough variety! They have 3 main dining rooms, but they all serve the same food. The buffet had the same food all week. We had the premier package which included 2 speciality restaurants. We chose the Italian and steak restaurants. The Italian was awful. Olive Garden is better. We never had the steak because after an hour and 45 minutes of no food, we walked out. They switched our reservation to the French restaurant and we wished we had chosen them for both meals because it was delicious and service was fantastic.

Onboard Activities

My husband went to the fitness room a couple of times but other than that, there wasn’t much to do. It was cold and the lido deck was deserted. Having cruised on Carnival a few times, I was surprised by the lack of activity on this ship.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
What they had was good, but not enough of it! We enjoyed the comedians, although the one who does the Tom Jones bit should tone it down a little. He was clearly making women uncomfortable. I thought Duval was great as a cruise director - he would do really well on Carnival. I enjoyed the rock opera, however, my husband did not.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Great crew and excellent service (with the exception of the streak house.)

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship was always clean, but having cruised only on Carnival and lastly on the beautiful Mardi Gras, the Princess Discovery was a little disappointing in design. I guess I was expecting a lot and thought it would be nicer than it was. The Piaza was nice but the rest of the ship just ordinary.

Cabin / Stateroom

Our balcony cabin was very nice.

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

We spent a couple of days in Seattle before our cruise and really enjoyed it! So much fun!

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

We extended our vacation in Vancouver and had a wonderful time there.

Juneau, Alaska

Rainy and cold. Most excursions were cancelled unfortunately. We missed our helicopter/glacier excursion. I know the cruise line can’t control the weather and we’re only being safe, but still disappointing.
