If you have anytime dining, call first thing in the morning to make a reservation at the dining room.

For example: The Crown is a fantastic ship. I particularly like the fact that it's not gaudy, not full of irritating colors and not a carnival at sea. Instead the colors are muted, the wood trim is elegant and the crew and staff are well trained and extremely obliging. Try the Crown Grill at least one night.

The Vine wine cafe is great. Right off the atrium and you get individually prepared sushi or tapas with your drink order. Also the buffet is not great. Better option the international cafe off the atrium which has great pastries and soups and sandwiches.

The ship was great, however, the 3,400 number of passengers was a bit too large for us, especially the waiting time for anytime dining!

As stated above, a balcony cabin is almost a must for the Alaska cruise. On recommendations, we got a cabin mid-ship, and that turned out to be smart. We weren't too far from anything, and the ride there was smooth. Correction on the picture of the chefs: they were preparing fruit, not dessert.

Crown Princess is a very nicely decorated ship - impressive wall decorations - bars and restaurants very nice - Much better than the gaudy Carnival Cruise ships we've been on many times.

Princess Cruise's loyalty programs keep their passengers loyal. All else being equal, I'm pretty locked in (going for the Black Card) - River Cruises excluded.

Try to buy excursion tours, especially for penguins at Puerto Madryn and Stanley, from local companies, as Princess tours are overpriced. Also, get to theater early, as it completely fills up.

You will enjoy Movies Under the Stars. Lay back on a comfortable chaise lounge while you watch some of the latest films. Attendants bring around popcorn, and blankets are available for cool evenings.

Be sure to notice the bubbles outside the Piazza (glass) elevators once you are above the 7th deck.

The best place to eat for breakfast and lunch was the buffet. Get a room pretty close to an elevator. It helps not to walk so far.

Book your excursions online or the first day you board because they get sold out pretty quickly. Most of the buffets and pools are on deck 15 and above, so if you like to be close to the action, book a higher deck. Most of the restaurants and shops and casino are on decks 5,6,7 so if you like that action, book lower decks. Get the coffee card for $30 per couple. They have a coffee bar with lattes and you can get unlimited froo froo coffee with the card. Well worth it. The buffets just serve regular coffee with milk and sugars (if you don't want to spend extra). If you want a good lawn chair for the movie under the stars, get there about 40 minutes early and save your spot.
