So So cruise by Tonyt11

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Mediterranea / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Ship was very nice. Paintings and overall decor above average. A 2 thumbs up for embarkation and disembarkation as both were very smooth and orderly.

The ship is great, people who run it need to work on the small stuff.

Our First and Last Cruise by PeggyH3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Mediterranea / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The ship was lovely---very Venetian in decor and quite elgant. We found the entertainment and shipboard activiites to be lacking in amount and quality. The service was spotty, as was the food quality. Buffet service was poor in that items weren't replenished in a timely manner. Desserts were particularly disappointing---rather bland and lacking variety. Too much jello in most "pies." Staff was often disorganized, though the ship was understaffed in certain areas, which may explain it. Communication was a problem at times, due to the entire serving staff speaking English as a second or third language.

Most disapointing cruise we have been on by RobertD23

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Mediterranea / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The trip started will our luggage not ariving until just a few minutes before dinner; late seating 8:30.The service in all areas;except our cabin steward, was the worst we have ever experienced. No one seemed to really care or take seriously our concerns. I left a pair of glasses at the buffet on the first day. The personnel at the "Customer service desk" assured me they would be recovered. Two days later a couple we had shared lunch with asked if we had received our glasses. They told us that a member of the crew had picked them up. A day later when I mentioned this again at the Customer service desk they just about called us a liar. We signed up for three shore excursions .When reviewing the cabin "bill" we had a question on the charges pertaining to the excursions. Again, a person at the "Customer Service desk" didn't address the issue and I had to request a supervisor who printed out the bill and explained the total in two sums as opposed to three that we were looking for.I have never had so many people bump in to me or not say excuse me in my entire life. This includes visits to Chicago;New York and various other crowded places. One of the evening tours was terrible. We couldn'y see anything. And another tour was so mishandled that people were left waiting in the hot sun without water for excess of 45 minutes. The casino refused to allow the use of the cabin card on the last "all-day" cruise day as I had been doing all along..No purser on board; No way to cash personal check; no ATM and the last two Ports of call had no International ATM's.There is more but I've given you the highlights.

One of our best cruise ever! by GabrielaM

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Costa Mediterranea / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We had a great vacation on this ship, the staff complied to all our needs. Our oldest kid had a great time in the Squok Club and the staff there was excellent. We will definitely recommend this ship. Also, unlike other ships we have been to, the decor was of very fine taste and elegance.

Costa is not as Italian as I had hoped. by DonS17

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Mediterranea / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

While the Princess ships I have sailed on had Italian diningroom waiters, this Italian ship had "very shy" East Indian wait staff. The service was average, but not remarkable. I was very disappointed that the optional restaurant, "The Medusa" which charged full price for the meal ($108 for two of us).I had expected only a service charge of about $20 per person. Avoid this restaruant, its definately not worth the cost. The ship was excellent, especially our stateroom.

Not the greatest.... by BillP12

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Costa Mediterranea / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Where to begin... first, we will not cruise on Costa again. Not because the ship wasn't beautiful, or the food OK, but the overall attitude and demeanor of the crew and clientele. The ship's passengers from what we could tell were about 50% American, 30% Italian and the remaining 20% from around Europe. The cruise is tailored for Italians, from the entertainment to the food. We heard the food was going to be outstanding, but it wasn't. Pizza was OK. Italian opera isn't our thing, so half the shows were boring. This is not the fault of the crew or Costa, but we found it very irritating to deal with Europeans who have no clue how a line works. If you don't know what I mean, you are probably European, so listen carefully. When we are all trying to get off the ship, GET IN LINE AND WAIT YOUR TURN. I can't tell you how many rude people who spoke Italian or French would just cut in and skip everyone. I talked to at least a dozen Americans who experience the same thing. A crew member returning from on shore even did it, climbing over my child's stroller to check in. Also, WHEN AN AMERICAN IS SITTING AT A TABLE, EVEN IF THERE IS ANY EMPTY CHAIR, DON'T SIT DOWN, FIND YOUR OWN TABLE. We do not want you to sit with us. It's not out of arrogance, I just want a little privacy and space. On several occasions, my wife and I were trying to talk quietly, and a couple of chatty Europeans walk up and sit down at our table, even when there were others available. I found this very annoying and even got into a minor argument with some half crazed lady who insisted she sit 6 inches from me to eat her breakfast. To sum it up... no I would not recommend this ship for a Caribbean cruise. I imagine it would be worse going on it in Europe. Sad to say, we had better service and food on Carnival.

Fabulous Mediterranean cruise by HarryL1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Mediterranea / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

The ship is much bigger than I thought. Much better looking and bigger than most of the Royal Caribbean ships. The captain docked the ship with such finesse that you could not even feel the slightest bump. The ship maintained stability and speed very well despite rough seas for 12 hours and got us to the next port of call right on time. Feel very secure on board of this ship.

Awesome ship and staff by Marym1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Costa Mediterranea / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Loved the European flair- felt I had travelled all over Europe while in the Carribbean! The staff and entertainment onboard was wonderful as was the food. The most beautiful ship I've seen. Every type of music and a dozen or more spots on board. I was sad that a few other American's minded the other languages. The Staff's ability to speaks 5 languages was impressive! Our servers in the main dining hall became our best friends. Getting on and off at the beginning and end and every stop was a breeze. There was barely any wait at all if any. Only glitch was getting on the right bus back to the airport, probably because we booked late- maybe had to wait 25 minutes for that. The shops onboard had prices as good as anywhere we stopped.

The worst cruise I've ever been on! by KarenK15

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Costa Mediterranea / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

First let me say that this ship went out of Venice to Greece and Croatia. for half of the year it goes out from Fort Lauderdale and the staff and food changes. This is my 7th cruise and was horrified at many things. There was blatant discrimination against Americans the entire time we were on the ship. This is mainly an Italian ship with Italian staff and crew. We were treated poorly, they group everyone by nationality on the tender boats, excursions, etc. Guess who was always last? We were. We waited for hours to leave the ship for an excursion because the English went last and they let the entire ship off before us. We were not the only Americans that felt this way. We complained to the front desk numerous times and finally ended up getting a bottle of champagne for the way were treated. There are absolutely no rules on this ship. Hottubs were to be for no one under 18 and at all times there were 12-15 kids in each hottub. We complained non-stop and they said they had no one to enforce the rule. Kids from the age of 1 to 15 were in all the bars, clogging the dance floors, at all the shows, in the casino and running rampant in the hallways. We would go into the theater for the horrible shows and we would trip over the line of strollers that lined the rows. The worst food I have ever had in my life. The airline food we had going over and back was like a 5 star meal compared to this. Shrimp the texture of mashed potatoes, rotten fish, beef the consistency of shoe leather and virtually everything on their menu was pre-frozen. Yuck! The absolutely only redeeming factor was the itinerary and even that needed some work.

A super, fun cruise! by KarenH17

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Costa Mediterranea / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

Costa Mediterranea was a beautiful ship! The decor was sometimes a bit 'busy', but still pleasing. Our cabin was very spacious - the largest room and bathroom we've ever had. The balcony was large, as well, and we enjoyed the chairs and table there. It may be the cleanest ship I've ever cruised ! It was easy to find my way around.

Not a four star experience! by JoniP1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Mediterranea / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship was clean and the layout was nice with a variety of different pools. The rooms were very small and the bathroom only had a shower stall. No toiletries were given (only on request) the shower gel was supposed to double as shampoo. Glad I was tipped off and brought my own. The nightly shows were awful. I've seen better high school productions. The food was average, expected better quality, more late night selections than pizza and hot dogs.
