Review summary

This cruise is tailored to Italian tastes, so if are expecting a Royal Carribean type of all-inclusive food and entertainment, you will not see it here. The staff was generally friendly and eager to help.

Embarkation

In Civitavecchia the onboarding process was well organized and went smoothly.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food at the evening sit down assigned dinning was lackluster. If you are expecting Royal Caribbean quality of food, you will be disappointed. The buffet offered a wide range of food and many people opted to do the buffet instead of the evening assigned dinning. However, since when they designed the buffet area they apparently expected most dinners to go to the assigned dinning, there is a big shortage of places to sit. Quite often you spend nearly as much time looking for somewhere to sit then you spend eating. The menu is tailored to the Italian tastes. So for instance if you want eggs for breakfast, they will be hard to find at the breakfast buffet. They offer an International Breakfast that has eggs but be aware that in contrast the buffet area, you are expected to sit in certain areas for the International Breakfast. If you try to sit in an open area that is not part of approved tables, the servers will come and hassle you. This breakfast is buffet style too, so the drama about where you sit is very strange. I found it incredible that on an Italian based cruise that even stops in Sicily, the cruise line will not provide you even one slice of free pizza. They have a special place for pizza and you must pay if you want a slice.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
There is very little to do on the cruise that is organized by the crew. They only had bingo on one night, for example. At most time periods you only had one choice of activity to do.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The entertainment was very spotty. Some nights were quite good, like the night the acrobats performed and some were very poor. The entertain was tailored to Italian tastes. If you are expecting Royal Caribbean style of entertainment, you will be disappointed. On the first night entertainment, they had a nice line-up of local workers singing. Most of the singers were from the Philippines. But in their final song, where a parade of flags was made, noticeably absent was the Philippine flag.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
The service and staff we found to be very responsive. There was some differences that could be observed depending on where the staff came from. It appeared to us that is the staff was from Italy, they appeared to not be so happy to help you but if they came from somewhere other that Italy, they were very friendly and helpful

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Ship was average on design and cleanliness.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
We had a balcony room and the room and balcony was great.

Disembarkation

In Civitavecchia we needed to go to the train station to return to Rome. The cruise line only provided a shuttle bus to take us to a bus stop that would then take us to various other stops including the train station. A shuttle bus that takes you directly to the train station and/or airport would have been much better.
