service disappointing by almfull

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Deliziosa / Destination: Caribbean

We were one of very few Americans on board and I couldn't believe the attitude of those who were there to "make sure we have a wonderful trip".  Whoever is in leadership needs to give the crew a lesson in customer service.  We didn't have any special requests. I am referring to being pushed aside by kitchen crew while Im trying to get tea so he can restock the cups.  Several times I witnessed a customer asking a simple question and the answer was given with a sneer , impatience and mumbling under there breath in a language ai don't know but reminds me of my teenagers talking back.  This attitude was consistent everyday with every crew member but our waiter.  We switched tables one night and had another waiter.  he treated us like an imposition.  If you are American and want an American customer service work ethic, stick with another cruise line.  But if you want to around fun, partying Italians and don't care about all the other stuff, you will have a blast on this cruise.

Terrible food and money grabbing policies instead of focusing on quality by kalpanalal

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Costa Deliziosa / Destination: Caribbean

We just came from this ship I usually do not leave the review but I think this trip needs a review so that people can understand before they decide on this cruise line.

My state room was ok. However, food on this cruise is terrible. Even the Italian food mostly was dried up or mussy. The only time Pasta was worth eating was when it was cooked in front of us fresh. First day I ordered ravioli in the only restaurant available to us and it was the most dried up ravioli I have ever had. I usually had to send 4 out of five dishes with just one bite tasted.

Overall dining arrangement is also bad. Dinner times are either from 6:15 or 9:15. People who take 6:15 can't go anytime later than 7:15 (which is difficult to make on the days when we go out of ship) and 9:15 time is too late for dinner. We went to restaurant few days and had to just give up as we had to sit there still 10:30 or 11.

The cruise crew does try hard to please customers but overall they just talk in same monotone voice instead of doing something to help guests. They have a lot of activities scheduled around to have customers spend money and that seems to be their main focus. It shows in the flash sales they put, photography each evening in multiple points (where photographers actually ask people passing by and these photographers are not professionally trained), spa ladies standing outside to grab customers (I stopped going in that area to avoid these ladies), and creating makeshift restaurants in buffet area each evening where you have to pay for dinner (during this time dinner selection is reduced and main dining restaurant does not have proper timing or even proper Italian food for that matter).

I liked the itinerary of this cruise however did not enjoy the cruise very much. Ended up most of the time in my stateroom.  I might have been better off with an American based cruise line as this felt like a vacation in overcrowded European village. Also, there is $12 per person per day mandatory surcharge and 15% gratuity charged even for a bottle of water.

Also, if you plan to leave early on this cruise line and don't want to drag your bags all over cruise, I would suggest to go and check where they are existing from. They told us (200 people) to meet on level 3 and then drag our bags half way in the cruise and then send on back to the level 2 and back half way. We could have just taken the elevator just one more level down and not needed to go through this circle. Crew or cruise line for that matter do not care.

Disappointing by sdallen

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Deliziosa / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

To say disappointing is being generous! Having cruised on Costa several years ago I was truly looking forward to the trip. The food was awful, an example of one dinner meal...for entrees: Squid spaghetti with squid ink, pork head with pork cheeks, roasted rooster...while I'm adventurous with food, this single night selection left me speechless. The desserts were good, not extremely fresh, but edible. Ice cream was on the dessert menu nightly and that was what the majority of people at our table of 8 choose. Now, getting a cup of coffee or tea to go with dessert was quite a feat. The response from the wait staff was "No", however it could be purchased from the bar, they'd bring it to the table for us, for 3.8Euro. Really now! After much grumbling from the South African couple, Belgium couple, and two US couples the head waiter brought us coffee. Although one evening the waiter whispered to us not to drink it, "bad coffee been in pot since morning". Just one more point about the food, buffet, restaurant and grill times were very limited, generally two to two and a half hours. Coffee, water, tea, and juice stations had "closed for maintenance" signs the vast majority of the day being only miraculously working from 7-8:30am and 5-6:30 pm.

While the majority of the staff were just downright rude, we had a wonderful cabin housekeeper who just a pure delight, smiling, helpful and friendly. You rock Achmad!

Although the majority of the altered itinerary was poor there were several great spots we never would have considered. Malta is absolutely beautiful and Kotor, Montenegro is a fabulous medieval city. Athens was good but the excursion choices had been altered, ie. prices increased, time and quality decreased.

It was a strange cruise in many ways., The passengers weren't happy, the staff members weren't happy, the activity director was rarely seen and teens and the majority of cruise residents were simply bored. Perhaps a lot of it was due to  the way the itinerary was changed weeks before Costa notified it's customers that those changes had been made. Ironically, the notification came from Costa past the date to "cancel the cruise" without penalty!

Romantic Mediterranean Cruise by andyxie

It's my 1st time to me to take Cruise in Europe.  Out of my expectation, both for the cruise and all beautiful cities.  Costa Deliziosa is very suitable for family.  And I like the atmosphere onboard.  The only pity is that 5 hours excursion is too short, better add 1-2 hours for each city,

Last Cruise with Costa by allenjhayesjr

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Deliziosa / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

First, I usually give good ratings, even when the service is not so good, however, this ship was a total disaster.  The ship felt like it was overbooked, people pushing in lines and the food was terrible.  We ate most of our meals in the formal dinning area since the buffet type food were terrible.  We have been on a lot of cruises and I must say, this one was the worst.

Ratings:  Food (-1 star), Ship (3 stars), Ports (4 stars), Staff (2 stars), Room service (5 stars)

Overall, giving this ship 2 stars is being nice.  Do you homework and review the ship you are sailing on.  We had to pay for everything extra, even the water to drink.  Also don't take a ship where you have to pay your final bill in Euros.  You will get a heart attack.

Cruise Information by winslowj

I thoroughly enjoyed this cruise.  I found the personnel on the cruise very informative and friendly.  The cruise was very mixed with several nationality and people of all ages.  We liked the mixture of language and people from other countries.  The ship has something for everyone.  We found the ship very clean and well kept.   We went on one excursion but found it easy to go on you own to most of the Greek islands.   The meals were very good and had a variety of food.

Christmas Holiday by Ferfer22189281

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Costa Deliziosa / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

I decided to go on a cruise for Christmas. My sister and I chose this one. We were impressed with the cabin service. Our room was always clean and made up. The ship was also very clean. That is where it ended. After paying a large amount for the cruise we were nickled and dimed the whole trip. We had to pay for non-alcoholic and internet. The internet was so poor that it took forever to log in and log out using up all the time. In all everything was way over priced. In addition to things being over priced, we were required to pay gratuity. It didn't matter whether we receive good service or not.

Up Charge City- Don’t do it by Pmdon12

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Deliziosa / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

As a couple in our 30’s from USA, we thought a cruise would be fun. Not on Costa... Food- we thought being an Italian cruise line the food would be good. It was as bad as could be. 90% was frozen food. Two nights we were sick in bed. Everything was an upcharge, pizza, gelato. You weren’t allowed more than one small glass of water. You could buy a bottle for $ though. Very bland food. Excursion- locations were good. Santorini you had to get a number or take a cruise excursion otherwise had to wait to leave. On a 6 hour time off boat, 2 was waiting to leave. We did our own thing every time except once and was as expected, disappointing. People- The promo videos show a younger crowd 80% over 60. 19% 35-59 years old with or without kids 1% 35 and under Entertainment- Had 2 pools, one for kids and the adult one was very small and closed/never saw anyone in it. Shows were really promo videos for future cruises. “Casino vibe” was very dated and was like old Vegas. A highlight for us was paying $40 euro to play bingo one night. Room- We paid the up charge for a room with a balcony and was nice. Technology- Everything was dated. WiFi was upcharge and expensive. If you are a European person over 60 looking for a cruise this could work great for you. Hospitality department didn’t speak English well and was no help. If you are from the USA, I would stay away and are better staying home.

This was the first cruise... by hrmymnk

Sail date: /
Ship: Costa Deliziosa

This was the first cruise for us. We could enjoy it,but it was hard to know how to spend on board as beginners. There was the hospitality desk, but there were always many peoples and staffs were always busy. When we had to take a boat to land from the Costa to the port, they announced by only letter, even though the destination had changed. But Costa’s staffs were so nice. Especially our housekeeper was so kind and nice. He was the great staff.

It was an "average" cruise by GaryTB

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Costa Deliziosa / Destination: Transatlantic

I have read several reviews before we left that said "you get what you paid for with Costa." I couldn't have sailed as cheaply on another cruise line so I guess I agree with the prior reviews. There were a few things that I didn't like on the ship but overall it wasn't bad (for the money).
