Coral Princess Alaska Cruise by CarolP6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The ship was lovely as was our balconey stateroom although the bed was hard & the temperature in cabin didn't reflect the thermostat setting. Cruising Glacier Bay with the Park Rangers on board was the highlight of the itinerary. Crew was friendly but not well-informed of areas of service outside their own. Food was good & plentiful but not as special or as tasty as we'd hoped for. Loved the warm pools. Our main pet peeve was that there was no dress code enforcement particularly on "Formal Nights" in the dining rooms. Too many men didn't even wear jackets or ties, much less suits or tuxedos and few women were in cocktail or formal attire. The cruise line needs to either enforce the dress code or eliminate it.

excellent entertainment by Ew11

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Recently took a cruise to Alaska with Coral Princess. The ship has been renovated and the result was good. The hall way are bright and clean, the central court from 5th to 8th floor gave us a sense of grandness. The Princess theatre, however, could benefit from another exist on 6th floor as after each show, the line up for exist was long. We paid for ocean view room but the view was totally obstructed, which was quite disappointing. The indoor pool was fun but a bit small.

Good Job Princess! by DonaldT3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

This was an excellent cruise. The ship was very well kept and the crew friendly. The ports and the path of the cruise was the only way to see the sea side of Alaska. The ship's captian informed us of animal sightings along the way and the lectures throughout the cruise were very informative. I highly recommend this ship and cruise.

We had a wonderful cruise. by RandiW1

Sail date: / Traveled as:
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

This was our sixth cruise and our first on Princess. We had a wonderful overall experience. Highlights were the excellent chef, the naturalist who gave continuous commentary and the breathtaking scenery. Princess is a little more low keyed than other lines - fewer public announcents and activity by the pool. We were very pleased.

I wouldn't do it again! by Stella25059957

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The ship was very nice and well maintained -- clean. The staff for the most part were very friendly. The elevators, with the exception of the central set, did not allow you to access any level of the ship so you had to frequently get off and change to a different set to reach your destination.

Great cruise by PinkyP

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The ship was great. It had many different activities that were fun. We were not that impressed with the entertainment. Mind you the comedians were great but the broadway shows were not spectacular. The staff was absolutely amazing. Our rooms were cleaned very well and the steward was very helpful. The head waiter was great to us, we were vegetarian so he arranged Indian-vegetarian meals for us a few times during the stay. However, the food was very similar. I would recommend the ship to others. One thing that surprised us the most was the age of the people onboard. The average age was probably over 60 with a few youngins in the mix. The sites we saw were amazing! We definately had enough time to enjoy each place we visited. So overalll I got to say the cruise was great!

AWESOME CRUISE by LynneK1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

This was our second cruise on the Princess Coral, we like the fact that the ship is smaller and you are able to navigate around the decks to find things. The crew were great and went out of their way to make you fell at home.

retirement cruise by TimothyC3

This cruise was nothing like the othet cruises I have taken--the mini-suites needs to be re-furbished, staff wasn't anywhere near as attentive as expected, request made before cruise (strawberrys and birthday pkg for my Mom) we never taken care of, it wasn't noted until last day we were members of captain circle, hightlights of nightly entertainment was bingo, all music was catered to the older people--no country or rock--just classical

A nightmare at best by GeraldU

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

I felt the overall condition of the Coral Princess was marginal for a cruise ship but perhaps acceptable for a cargo container vessel. The beds in our stateroom should have been replaced years ago. Between the lumps and low sections it was impossible to get a decent night's sleep. Finely I took the 4" mattress from the hide-a-bed and placed it on the floor, this solved some of the issues but should have been totally unnecessary, considering we paid $5,800 for a one weeks cruise. The deck chairs and rubber mat were covered with paint, obviously the painting crew haven't heard of using a drop cloth when using a tar bucked and broom to touch up the rust spots. Considering the fact 90%+ of the customers are from north America (U.S.A. & Canada), you would think the crew whould speak ENGLISH, some could manage a work or two, but for the most part we had to rely on hand signals or just take care of it ourselves. The food in the dinning rooms was one notch above marginal, which made it one notch above the waitpeople and staff. The food served at the buffet was about the same, but the waitpeople seemed to be "put out" buy having to pour coffee and juice, due in part because it interrupted their personal conversation with other crew members. I think it's wrong to add the gratuity for the cabin attendant to the bill, on a daily basis. This should be left up to the customer to determine the amount of the daily gratuity. Needless to say, it took the incentive out of the process and therefore the service was less than that experienced on other cruise lines. Speaking of gratuities, whenever a glass of wine was purchased, a gratuity was ALREADY included, but the bill had a predominate place for a second gratuity to be added. I find this practice to be very offensive - either allow the customer to made that decision or add the amount to the bill, as your currently doing, and eliminate the 'gratuity" line from the bill. There is much more, but I think you get the idea. The person at cruiseonly, that booked our reservations, has no clue about customer service. Pam was very specific about all aspects of our reservation, but those specifics were lost in the translation. As an example, out return flight from Vancouver, Canada to Seattle, WA, a 40 minute flight, wasn't due to depart until 4 p.m., which was necessite a 9 hour wait from the time we could disembark the cruise ship. We ended up taking the bus from the pier to SEA-TAC, paying extra for this service due to the fact our confirmed and paid for airline tickets were non-refundable. Three days before our scheduled departure, we received a telephone call from an employee of cruiseonly telling us we HAD to change our departure date to Saturday, leave from Seattle and return to Seattle, but we would be stopping in Victoria, B.C. and not be going all the way to Whittaker, Alaska. After several telephone calls, we finely found out this wasn't a mandatory change but an incentive due to the over booking of the Coral Princess for the 7/28/08 departure. This initial telephone call was very upsetting for a number of reasons, the most important of which was what were we suppose to do with our two dogs? The kennel that boards our animals was already booked, so we spent 2 hours on the phone attempting to secure accommodations for our dogs, with no luck. That's when we called cruiseonly back and it was determined this was a "special' offer, not a mandatory change. The emotional damage had already been done, the anticipated "fun" vacation was turning into the nightmare it was to become. There is no way we would ever use cruiseonly or princess lines again. We'll rely on our travel agent to deal with this nonsense in the future.

A Great Honeymoon! by SarahS10

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

This was our first cruise and our honeymoon, so I can't write from a more experienced point of view, but we loved the cruise! We were able to see glaciers up close, take day trips and relax and enjoy ourselves. We even took part in an art auction and some of the art was amazing! The shore excursions are pricey, but you can often make arrangements once you get to a port with companies there, which can be considerably cheaper. The only dissappointment we had was the crowded buffet in the morning. Sometimes we had to walk around a few times to find seats as there was no one to help you find seats.

Traveling Princess Cruise Line?BEWARE! by MichaelG9

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

I had a third party protection system on my credit cards and when it appeared my cards jumped from Ohio to Alaska the protection kicked in. When my excursion charges couldn't be charged to the credit card I offered my debit card, which by the way, cruise lines do not like and will not use to secure and use the on ship cashless system. Here I am no credit card-no contact info for the credit card security system (that was my fault) and I was being told my debit card wasn't their favorite choose of payment. I was then told-"If your account is paid in full when we get to port you and your guest cannot disembark!" I was in what I started calling "Ship Jail". I could wander all areas of the ship but I couldn't leave the ship until my debt was cleared. My family and I was falsely imprisoned by Priness Cruise Lines! I was having them use my debit card to clear all charges on my account. But I was having to get out of bed in the middle of the night (after midnight) to make sure my accounts were clear so My family could travel ashore in ports of call!

I did not like the fact that there was laundry carts in the halls all of the time and you were forever going around them, no matter what time of the day..Not as clean a ship as I have been on in the past..

Coral Princess to Panama Canal by RichardR13

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

First time cruising on Princess and Coral Princess is a good ship. Left from Ft Lauderdale to ports of call the included going through locks in Panama Canal. Ship is new and updated. Captain and crew were freindly and dispalyed good customer service. Stateroom and overall experience is one my wife and I would use Princess Lines again. Most of the Passengers were senior citizens therefore night life was almost not existant after midnight. Believe that is why their was no Midnight Buffet. Boarding the ship was very easy and luggage was in our room when we got to our stateroom. We selected open seating for meals and found it the best way to meet new people. Cruise was smooth their was enough activities to either join in or just watch with out being bothered by them. Ports of all seemed to be short or to lenghty. Not worth going to the Pacific side of canal unless you want to risk missing the ship as some passengers almost did. Overall the Coral Princess was a good adventure to start of the New Year.

A great cruise and a wonderful holiday by JohnS77

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Coral Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

The ship itself is great, laid out very well, meets all the standards of a great cruise ship. The hot tubs were great, but we are not sure why they close soo early, 10pm, what is with that, some adults like to have a hot tub in the moonlight, not on this ship. Princess seems to nickle and dime the passengers, charging for ice cream. In the casino card shufflers are used now, giving more advantage to the house, this is supposed to be a high end cruise ship, they don't have auto shufflers at the high end casinos in Las Vegas, why here? Overall we had a great time but the deficiencies with this cruise were very noticable as these are the things we like to do. Thank you very much
