Coral Princess

7 Night Alaska Voyage Of The Glaciers Northbound (Vancouver To Whittier)

Sail date: June 01, 2009

Ship: Coral Princess

Cabin type: Inside

Traveled as: Singles/Friends

Reviewed: 15 years ago

Review summary

The ship was very nice and well maintained -- clean. The staff for the most part were very friendly. The elevators, with the exception of the central set, did not allow you to access any level of the ship so you had to frequently get off and change to a different set to reach your destination.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
While there was plenty of food available, the variety and quality were not impressive. Ice cream, the grill, and pizza were only available between noon and 6 pm. The waitstaff were quick to clear dishes -- sometimes too quick!

Entertainment

3 out of 5
A lot of musical productions.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
The room steward knew all his guests by name and went out of his way to ensure we had everything we needed. He was always friendly and left chocolates on the pillow nightly.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The staterooms were comfortable but small.

Ports of call

Skagway, Alaska

I thoroughly enjoyed Skagway. It is a great town for a walking tour and has an excellent quilt shop. The train was not impressive (the four hour trip) -- beautiful scenary but couldn't hear any of the narrative.
Don't Miss: Walking tour

Ketchikan, Alaska

Venture out on your own. The city bus is free and will take you to both totem parks (one of which is also free). It is a small town so it is easy to see the highlights in a short amount of time.
Don't Miss: Totem poles, and the elevated buildings

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
Mendenhall glacier -- again city buses will get you there for a much cheaper price -- and you can spend as much time as you want rather than the time limited one of the tours. Whale watching is also a great activity at this port.
Don't Miss: The tram to the top.

Pros: Outdoor decks

Cons: Elevators
