Review summary

The ship was small -- that was a plus. The six elevators were the slowest I've ever encountered on a ship. (Seeing both elevators on the 12th floor, I hiked up from the 4th to the 11th rather than wait. When I got to the 11th floor, one of the elevators had made it up to the 9th). We had a guarantee on the lowest outside cabin. We were "upgraded" two categories and ended up directly above the props on the lowest passenger deck. This is akin to throwing some clothes on the floor and sleeping next to your washing machine. When the ship made any turns (as in going into port) it was like driving over a 'rumble strip' on the edge of the highway.

Ports of call

Key West, Florida

In port from 0700 till 1245. Not much open until 1000, but the pizza place right off the ship was open that early. Back in the USA, but the prices are still like the islands. Tourist trap and they know it.
Don't Miss: Hemingway house.

Nassau, Bahamas

Nassau used to be a tropical paradise. On this trip I saw bums sleeping on the beach. The Atlantis hotel on Paradise Island was the redeeming factor. It's very nice, and the aquarium was really a delight.
Don't Miss: The Atlantis hotel

San Juan, Puerto Rico

We could have been in any 'poor section of town' in any major American city.
Don't Miss: Free drinks at many liquor stores.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

If you don't scuba or snorkel you're pretty much resigned to downtown, and that's not a bad thing. Take a hike through the grocery store. Prices are about double what we pay in the states, although manicures are the same price as most in the states.
Don't Miss: K-Mart. Several kinds of rum for under $3 per litre. They don't deliver to the ship, but that's what tote bags are for.

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

Very nice island with great views. The open air bus tour takes you up to the top of the island over some very steep and twisty roads. The reward is spectacular views.
Don't Miss: Get out of the port and take the open air bus tour for $25 per couple.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

Nice island. We took a tour with Joyce Prince that gave us a good overall picture of the island. The beaches were very nice.
