Review summary

I have been Cruising since 1997. Since my first Cruise on the RCCL Monarch of the Seas, Celebrity (owned by RCCL) has been portrayed as the ultimate in Luxury Cruising for Service and Experience. My experience for this cruise is that it isn't much different than any other Cruise Line I have been on.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Painless...we arrived early and never waited in line. Dropped luggage with the Porter, walked in the front door and checked in less than 15 minutes, on the ship in 20 minutes.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food was NOT up to par with what I expected on a Celebrity Cruise. The selection was limited and it did not change much from day to day. We didn't go hungry but the availability of something new or upscale on the menu was not there. Also, all the menus we got were worn out looking like they had been used since this ships inauguration in 2000.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Too Cold for pools. Did use the hot tub one day and notice I did not say Jacuzzi because there was NO jet action. We did visit the Persian Garden one day in the morning. The activities at night were great. The highlights were Deal or Deal game in the Theatre, The Yes or No game in the Rendezvous, and the numerous Musical Games in the Sky Lounge.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
I can't attest to the Production Shows because we did not attend them. One night we saw Gen Maldonado who is a Singer. Her show which included mostly singing and some comedy/theatrics was excellent. Another night was a Comedian, from Canada, I don't recall his name but he was good. He also had a adult show on the last night that was purported to NOT be for children. The audience was more X rated then he was.

Children's Programs

No Children Thank God!!!! I mean we didn't bring any.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Staff was EXCELLENT!!! Are room steward was very attentive. Even supplied Distilled water for my wife's CPAP machine, we didn't request it because we didn't know it was available. Room was kept up to par and chocolate on pillow every night. We had Anytime dinning but still arrived about the same time each night. The first night we were seated next to a window at a table for two. My wife requested a different table because she wanted a special chair. For the rest of our stay we were seated at that table. The waitstaff was very attentive. The Star there was our Sommelier, Ena, who attended to our every need in the Spirits department. She also worked the Buffet in the morning and magically appeared at our table wherever we sat as soon as we sat down. Always smiling she welcomed us whenever we saw her.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
I believe this ship is about 23 years old and has been refurbed 5 years ago. Taking all that into account overall the ship is in very good condition. I don't say Excellent because the details have not been kept up. For instance, around the base of the shower in our room there was rusted missing metal. Could have been covered with caulk, other parts of the shower already were caulked...have never seen this on any ship I have been on, not my first cruise on a refurbed ship. In the pool area, some of the exterior windows had paint peeling off of them. The underside of the railings were rusted and peeling which I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't been laying on a lounge chair under neath them. The exterior hull also had some rust issues that I don't see on other ships. The interior of the ship for the most part is in Very Good to Excellent condition.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
I've already mentioned the Attentiveness of our Steward and how clean he kept our cabin despite it's flaws beyond his control. Other than that it was a typical Balcony Room.

Ship tip

If you've been on a Newer Ship you may be disappointed.

Newer ship are...newer, but not necessarily better - larger number of people, etc...
