Embarkation

I've been on the Summit twice: once before her remodel and once after. This comment has nothing to do with Celebrity and everything to do with the cruise port officials. We cruised out of Boston, my home port. While it's great that the port is rapidly expanding, more staffing and more training on how to handle multiple ships in the port need to happen. We were told conflicting instructions, resulting in us waiting 35 min. in one line only to join the other line that we were instructed to leave and spend another 30 min. waiting in that line. Once we got to the front of the line, we were told we had no option but to check our luggage. Others were allowed to take theirs on without checking, even though our luggage was the same size. While we normally check our luggage anyway, we had concerns with all the confusion about whether or not ours would be delivered to the right ship. It was delivered to us, but we were told it wouldn't be a guarantee that it would be delivered to the ship.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

We had the best wait staff ever, anticipating our every need and even giving us extra when possible. My drink was waiting for me every night before I reached my table.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
The Cruise Director, Alex was fantastic and easily the best Cruise Director I've had in 30 cruises. I'm an Activity Director, so I do his job with seniors. It's not easy, and somehow he always found a way to crack jokes. Ferdie, the Activities Manager was fantastic as well, feeding off of Alex's energy. The two of them together were HILARIOUS! Trivia could be done a little better. Sometimes wording wasn't clear, and not enough research was done. I always research my trivia (which I create) and make sure that the questions are easily understood. Timing was also an issue with trivia. I do trivia all the time as part of my job. There were times when not enough time was allowed to think of the answer. I ALWAYS make sure I don't rush my trivia for this reason. I was, however, proud of myself for winning "Yes Or No"!

Entertainment

The shows were AMAZING! As you can see I got to meet the Celebrity production cast. They were so very sweet and those that gave the backstage tour were hilarious! I'm a performer too, so I can relate. The comedians were hysterical. Karen Grainger (female impressionist) and Tommy Green Jr. were definitely standouts. Karen was even a part of "The Liars Club" with Alex and Captain Demetrius (who has quite a sense of humor), in which we found out she's great at improv! Tommy Green Jr. is quite the storyteller! He was HYSTERICAL! He was brought on as a singer but knows how to tell a joke!

Service and Staff

Top notch!

Ship Quality

The Summit is an old friend, but she certainly didn't show her age! Insolation is an issue, especially with sound. We saw a YouTube video the night before we left of a cabin right above ours on the 9th deck, right under the Ocean View Cafe. There was nonstop noise from the cafe throughout the video.

Cabin / Stateroom

Our cabin steward was so kind to us and was able to answer any questions we had. He even stopped putting on the duvet covers when requested

Ship tip

Just relax and enjoy!

Ports of call

Oranjestad, Aruba

We did do an excursion here, visiting the gold mines and California Lighthouse. I would upgrade the bus, which was a school bus from 1992. After the bus ride, we boarded a catamaran for a short ride around the front of the island. To say it was choppy was an understatement: people were literally falling over each other!

Willemstad, Curacao

We did do an excursion where we took a tour bus to a run distillery and then to Mambo Beach....we now have a new favorite beach!

Kralendijk, Bonaire

We didn't do an excursion here. We decided to visit the artisan market right off the port. It was beautiful, but HOT!

Disembarkation

Disembarkation could have gone better. We used the self-assist option and because we were allowed out to the deck before the ship was cleared, we wound up standing outside for about 10 min. while waiting for clearance.
