Review summary

If you're looking for a sophisticated, but, leisurely cruise experience, I recommend Celebrity Summit Eastern Caribbean! I met some of the nicest cruisers & dedicated, hardworking crew onboard this ship. Captain Kate McClure (sp?) was wonderful to her passengers and her crew's regard & trust in her abilities is evident everywhere. The ship's amazing crew, impeccable stage shows and productions, food, as well as cabin amenities, and cleanliness are commendable and made our vacation one we'll cherish for years to come.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was quick & painless. Our party of 7 arrived at 11 am and by 11:45 am we were all on-board, settled in and eating lunch in the buffet & enjoying cocktails on deck 11 for the sail-away party! Our luggage was waiting for us outside our cabin by noon and we were able to change into swim suits & hit the hot tub(s) for a pre-sail-away soak. Lovely!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Every meal was a tasty delight & the servers & waitstaff were impeccable professionals! Early meals (5;30 pm - 6:30 pm) were un-rushed & leisurely, but even at 7:30 pm when the Cosmopolitan Restaurant was getting full, we never waited longer than 5-8 minutes for dishes once they were ordered. My only complaint was the size of the tables, the gi-normous round tables for 10 made conversation with those seated across the table nearly impossible, as well as awkward to get the butter or condiments passed! But, still a pleasurable dining experience and we really enjoyed "pulling out all the stops" & dressed for dinner every night, to match our equally elegantly dressed waiters & fellow diiners!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
My friends and I loved the Emporium shops, rock concert movies & feature films on the top deck 12, sumptuous cocktails at the Martini Bar & Karaoke at the Rendevous Bar!! But our favorite on-board activity was the "Silent Disco" & dancing at the Revelations Lounge on deck 11!

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We absolutely LOVED the evening stage shows , especially the comic, Danny Wilson (very Rodney Dangerfield-esque observational humor and delivery!). The team of high-energy dancers and talented musicians, whose "Soundtrack" production numbers rivaled ANYTHING on the Vegas Strip. Kudos to the acrobatics of husband & wife contortionists who stunned us night after night.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All servers, waitstaff, cabin stewards, bartenders and buffet servers were wonderful & went out of their way again & again to make our drinks & dining memorable. Big shout outs to "Damario" in the Revelations bar & to Cosmopolitan Restaurant server team of Jewis, Jesse & Vincent (Sommolier) who anticipated our needs before we even asked & NEVER got an order wrong!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
I appreciated the clean towels, complimentary robes & the afternoon & evening turn-downs! Only complaint was the lack of late evening heat & temperature control in our cabin (I slept in my robe the first night until I got the hang of the temperature ranges on subsequent nights!)

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin was spacious enough & comfortable for 2 people. My friend & I are fashionistas with large wardrobes & we both appreciated the drawer space and closet space. We especially liked the large wall-covering mirror, which seemed to double the room's space, in lieu of a portal or balcony. The cabin was very clean, but the bed was harder than I would have liked.

Ship tip

Bring an extra surge protector & outlet. Also, I didn't like the fact the cabin doors could be opened by cabin stewards even when locked form the inside.(we had a couple of potentially embarrassing moments when after a quick knock, the steward attempted to open the door before waiting for an answer to his knock!)

Ports of call

Cape Liberty (Bayonne), New Jersey

Nice, friendly port.

St. John's, Antigua

5 out of 5
A great time was had in Antigua, touring with a local taxi company, visiting the beach, a delicious lunch & shopping with neighborhood vendors!

Basseterre, St. Kitts

5 out of 5
Our party of 6 enjoyed a independent bus tour of the island & a trip to a beautiful black-sand beach in St. Kitts! Just wish we'd had more time in port to explore & fewer Monkey-wielding peddlers vying for photos and tips!

San Juan, Puerto Rico

4 out of 5
The graciousness & kindness of the locals and everyone in the Luis Munoz airport & the SJ dock was memorable, given the devastation we could see in the surrounding areas. Though the downtown areas of San Juan were functioning somewhat efficiently, the wreckage & damage caused by the storm were evident & we were truly humbled by the comfort WE cruisers received and only wish we could've done more for the people left behind before we boarded planes for the mainland.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We appreciated the complimentary airport shuttles arranged by Celebrity Summit, that made getting from the ship to our flights VERY easy! THANK YOU, Celebrity!
