Review summary

The itinerary was really good however the ship is tired and we would not go on her again. We will stick to Solstice class ships if we go Celebrity again. The staff undoubtedly make the experience one to remember. They are the stars of the show.

Embarkation

Very quick - we were Concierge Class and there was no line.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The choice in the Main Dining Room was quite good. My only criticism is that there could be more vegetables served. In the Oceanview cafe there was sometimes limited service but not sure why? Great Indian offerings - the lentil dahl in particular was delicious. We also had 2 meals in Q'sine - an interesting experience and really good quality food. I would personally like to see this at a lower cost. $45 dollars a head is a bit steep and given it was only about 40% occupied both times we went our fellow cruisers obviously felt the same.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Pool area is tired - including the solarium. Hubby used the gym and was pleased with the equipment and level of maintenance.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The regular house band with female singer were good. The guy singing and playing the piano in the Rendezvous was not so good. We didn't go to the shows apart from seeing a comedian on the last night but he was okay. Would really rate this as a 3.5.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff are what makes the Summit. Cheery Donovan in the Oceanview cafe at breakfast is a delight. The guys onboard really can't do enough for you.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
She is tired there is no doubt about that. Lots of rust, fellow cruisers complained of backed up toilets and in the public bathrooms there were often cubicles taped off 'under maintenance'. The layout is odd especially on deck 11 where navigating your way around is confusing - most likely due to retro-fitting the Q'sine restaurant into the scheme. Lots of dead ends and opening doors meant for staff!

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Huge balcony as we were aft. Lots of rust on the canopy supports and around the drain hole at the end of our balcony. Television is dated and the sound distorted. Quite old fashioned in look and limited storage for cases as the did not fit under the bed. The cabin gets a higher make because of the level of cleanliness. Plenty of wardrobe / drawer space and lots of hangers.

Ship tip

This ship has a lovely feel despite being tired. Don't expect too much glitz and glam though.

Ports of call

Cape Liberty (Bayonne), New Jersey

Just in transit - no excursions

Bar Harbor, Maine

Fab place. Picture perfect New England. We met a friend here and she took us to Acadia Park. Stunning.

Saint John, New Brunswick

4 out of 5
Nicer than we thought it would be. We just wandered around the town which was easy to navigate and had a laid back feel.

Halifax, Nova Scotia

5 out of 5
Lovely boardwalk - obviously has had a fair amount of investment. We again just found our own way around. Nice town and we'd like to go back when it's not shrouded in fog.

Portland, Maine

We took the trolley bus which was fun. Around the port there are lots of shops and restaurants. It's a little edgy if you stray into some of the downtown areas however.

Boston, Massachusetts

5 out of 5
Our third visit to Boston so we went to Salem on the commuter train which was fun. We did come back here as it was July 4th and saw some of the celebrations happening. Boston is a handsome city with loads to do. The park is beautiful and well worth a visit.

Newport, Rhode Island

5 out of 5
Loved this place. It has a really laid back feel and lots of shops / restaurants. The tendering process was a bit clunky here and we did not get ashore until 12.30pm. The last tender back to the ship was 4pm so we did not have an immense amount of time.

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
One of our cases was misplaced despite being clearly labelled. There was quite a delay disembarking due to immigration issues. There was a really long line and it took ages to get out.
