Review summary

This cruise was to place the Summit in Cape Liberty for her summer cruising season.  The Summit is a beautiful ship with tasteful decor throughout.  The ship's staff was excellent and friendly.  The ship's captain was fun and informative.  Every morning she would give her daily report, and include a daily riddle, and a quote from Confucius.  That always brought a chuckle.
I had an inside cabin on deck 8, forward, and almost never felt any motion from the ship.  The cabin was comfortable and two people would have fit with no problem.  A good size bathroom and plenty of closet space and storage was available.  The cabin attendant did a fine job of taking care of my cabin, and always greeted me with a cheery "Good Morning".
The lounge and pool deck entertainment was good with a wide variety of music styles to fit everyone's taste.  From pop singers to a string duo, you could find something to listen to.

The food in the main dining room was very good, and again the staff made it a pleasure.  They seemed to press you into the open seating, but I opted for the set dining time.  I personally prefer having the same table and the same wait staff.  They get to know you, know how you like your food, and are always ready for a recommendation.
The "Lido" cafe on the pool deck was good, not great.  Sometimes the food was hit or miss, but for cafeteria/buffet style service, that can happen.  However, the space was roomy enough that there was never a big problem finding a place to sit.
I can't comment on the internet service as I don't use it onboard a ship.
Overall, I would recommend the Celebrity Summit and Celebrity Cruise Lines in general.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
As stated above, the Main Dining Room was very good.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
There was always something to do, however, I spent most of my time just relaxing.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
There was a wide variety to choose from

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
Can't comment because I didn't have children with me. However it seemed like there were very few children on this cruise.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Troy was my cabin attendant and was always friendly and kept the cabin in order.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The Summit is an older ship, launched in 2001, but is well maintained. There is an understated elegance about her, not all flash and glitter!

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
A comfortable cabin with very good closet and storage space. Two people would fit comfortably.

Ship tip

The Summit provided you with beach towels before every destination port so there is no issue with water activities. Make sure you plan your disembarkation plans well in advance. It is a very hectic scene once you get out of customs and immigration.

Ports of call

San Juan, Puerto Rico

5 out of 5
Arrive in San Juan a few days before you depart so you can really enjoy San Juan.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

5 out of 5
More noted for its shopping, this is still a nice port and island. Take an island tour if it is your first time. Otherwise plan to spend the day at the beach.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

5 out of 5
DA PARTY BUS! That is THE excursion to go on. It was a blast.

King's Wharf, Bermuda

5 out of 5
The Glass Bottom Boat. Get to see some beautiful fish among the reefs and a shipwreck.

Cape Liberty (Bayonne), New Jersey

1 out of 5
Make your plans to get to your final destination. Mine was Pennsylvania Station to catch an Amtrak train, and it was very confusing to get there.

I enjoyed Summit for our "grown-up" trip. Beautiful, well appointed spa balcony but food, although great, was a little bland which led me to believe it was for an older crowd. Will sail with Celebrity again.
