Celebrity Solstice

7 Night Alaska Glacier Cruise (Seattle Roundtrip)

Sail date: August 23, 2019

Ship: Celebrity Solstice

Cabin type: Balcony

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

Celebrity is a great cruise line. Our favorite, in fact. The Solstice needs some overhaul work done. Had a great time in port and at sea. It's misleading to call it Inside Passage since not much was inside.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food was very good at the main dining room, excellent at the specialty restaurant Murano, not that good at the buffet. I was disappointed that the buffet allowed passengers to serve themselves, since on a previous Celebrity cruise the staff served everything. As a result, people were sloppy, greedy, and somewhat unsanitary. The price of drinks was a bit too high and always included 20% tip. Not much top shelf liquor. A small bottle of water cost more than $4.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Did not participate in many activities.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The naturalist and historian were excellent. A couple of the shows were very good. I didn't care too much for the music performed in the grand ballroom; too much loud rock music, more like Carnival cruise music.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Dining room servers and specialty restaurant servers were excellent. The room steward was the best we have ever had. Most of the crew were great, helpful, always pleasant

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
It was clean, but worn. A lot of the furniture needs re-covering or replacement. The layout was okay, quite a bit different from other ships we have been on

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Plenty of room, and very clean, but needs to be re done. Things are worn out. A little rusty on the balcony.

Ports of call

Ketchikan, Alaska

Had a great time in the rainforest. The town itself was fun, really liked the walk along the river

CRUISE ENDICOTT ARM & DAWES GLACIER

5 out of 5
Very interesting segment of the cruise. We learned a lot from the naturalist narration. Not a huge glacier, but a pretty ride up the fiord. A little early in the morning, though

Juneau, Alaska

Too busy with traffic, trucks, noise, people. The ship parked a long way from the town.

Skagway, Alaska

Excellent place to stop. We loved this little town. Took a great hike up the Chilkoot trail, and short raft trip. Saw lots of bald eagles. Beautiful area to visit

Cruise Inside Passage, Alaska

We expected to travel on the east side of Vancouver Island both directions. However, we were in open ocean with rough water for 1.5 days on the way up and open ocean for most of the way back.

Victoria, British Columbia

Didn't bother to get off the ship. Pulled in at 6 PM, left at 1130. Hard to see much at that time of the night.
