Review summary

The crew and staff are among the best in the fleet but the condition of the ship itself leaves a lot to be desired. There was a lot of repair work that needed to be done and even some repairs that were going on during the cruise that inconvienced the guests. The locks on most of the bathroom stalls did not work and there was even an instance of the door coming off its hinges. The dining room curtain were coming down, and the furnishing were in bad need of replacement. While we were on board the crew replace the carpet in the hallways and replaced the floor on the pool deck (deck 11). While the carpet replacement wasn't much of a problem, you just had to walk over or around the area the crew was working on, the replacement of the floor on the pool deck was a different matter. The floor was replace half at a time but because of that one or the other of the outside pools was not available to the guest during the entire cruise. (the cruise line thought that a glass of champaige was sufficient compensation of the inconvience). In addition the hamburger /hotdog bar had to be relocated to the buffet which cut down the buffet space. The ports of call were enjoyable, even the couple of ports where is wasn't a lot of activities on shore.

Ports of call

Roseau, Dominica

This island is just being developed for the cruise lines. If you are into ecology and physical activites, there are many excursion into the rainforest or the Carab indian village. We did not take an excusion at this port but the shopping in the local craft market was worth the stop. The people are friendly and the prices are good.

Oranjestad, Aruba

We booked the "Sea and See" excursion. We enjoyed the trip and saw many interesting things like the lighthouse and the natural bridge. However, at the lighthouse area there was an Italian restaurant that all of us wanted to try but were unable to do to time constrants( the restaurant was kind enough to let us use their facilities). We did notice however, that if the boat had met us at the lighthouse area instead of us having to go back into town to catch the boat there would have been time to eat at the restaurant.
Don't Miss: the WWII sunken freighter

We again booked an excursion through the cruise ship to "swim with the sea lions". There were only 4 of us on the tour and had a very informative guide/trainer. We were able to interact with the sea lions both in their enviorment and in ours.
Don't Miss: swimming with the sea lions

Bridgetown, Barbados

we went snuba diving here (again it was an excursion booked though the ship)and got hooked on that activity. To be able to go down 20 feet without tanks, just a air line was amazing.
Don't Miss: beaches

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

Did not visit anyplace on the island. Just shopped and the market near the port terminal. The prices were ok but not as good as Dominica. The people were a little more agressive than on other island.

Castries, St. Lucia

The island is beautiful but the beaches are something not to be missed. They are the best. We had been here before and missed the beaches (went on the priate ship).
Don't Miss: the pirate ship and the treasure hunt

St. George's, Grenada

We took a taxi tour instead of booking an excursion. The driver was informative and knowledgable about his island. There isn't one thing that stands out as a "don't miss" activity, but the island is beautiful and the people are very friendly.

Basseterre, St. Kitts

We had been at this port before also but had never ridden the train. This is definitely a not be be missed experience. The train winds its way through the island and it is very relaxing and informative.
