Celebrity Equinox

7 Night Western Caribbean (Ft. Lauderdale Roundtrip)

Sail date: June 15, 2019

Ship: Celebrity Equinox

Traveled as: Family (young children)

Review summary

If you are traveling with the intention of your kids having fun, steer clear from this ship. Go Royal Caribbean. If you are traveling as a couple or just want to enjoy more simple activities without having to walk around too much along with great service and quality, this ship might be for you. Again, might have just been my sail, but just be prepared to see older folks falling over.. I warned you.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food was great especially the specialty sushi restaurant. Not as much variety as Royal Caribbean but quality makes up for that.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Activities were catered more towards older folks. Unless you are young and prefer old people activities, then you'll love it. Art auctioning, bingo, cooking classes, shopping, 60s music shows. Not much action going on.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The Four Seasons Music performance was the highlight show for me. If you love Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, you'll enjoy the male quartet that well performs all their hits.

Children's Programs

2 out of 5
Not a ship for children.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Older ship but well maintained given it's built date (2009). On the smaller side for me.

Cabin / Stateroom

Ship tip

Be prepared to see older folks randomly falling and getting back up. At first, it was shocking but then it happened so often that it became normal. Most bizarre thing I've ever witnessed being on a cruise ship.

We have cruise with Royal Caribbean for about 45 cruises and now we’re cruising with Celebrity since there’s rarely any children on the ship.

I took my very first cruise for my 36th birthday on this ship, cruising solo, and I loved every moment of it! Never saw anyone fall, though! Glad to hear that you had an overall enjoyable time.

I was on this ship for 19 nights in November 2023 & I didn’t see a single person fall. 🤔🤔🤔😆. Hope your next cruise is better. 🛳️🌴🛟🏖️⚓️🐬🛳️

It’s no secret that Celebrity doesn’t cater to families with young kids……….not their target demographic.

A 2019 cruise being reviewed in 2024? I imagine many changes have taken place in five years. The Captain and Cruise Director set the tone for a fun, successful cruise.
