Blu had some interesting selections; however, the execution of the meals was subpar. The first night had filet mignon which was tender, but was overcooked and dry. The New York strip was very good. On two occasions, I had to return two seafood orders because it was too fishy - products that should not be fishy. The service was excellent, although the waiter forgot my order serval times. The supporting staff was exceptional. The buffet was great, with very good variety and the food that I ate there was fresh and of high quality. The shrimp cocktail from the main dining room was very good. I had it for every dinner. The salads from Blu and the main dining room were ok. I could have done better at the buffet by making my own. The desserts were nothing spectacular, and not memorable - and believe me, I sampled quite a few - from a baked Alaska, to a black forest, to red velvet, ice cream, custards, and everything else on the menu. Nothing stood out.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
The usual suspects. Nothing spectacular. I enjoyed all of them. The natural grass on the bocce ball field (?) or court (?) was a nice touch. Never had played before, so I really enjoyed that. As usual, the spa was overpriced and they always wanted to sell add ons. The fitness center was nice, but I had to keep the treadmill time to 20 minutes to ensure I didn’t hog it. Using it during nighttime proved to be better since there was virtually no one there.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
I didn’t go on the cruise for this purpose, so I didn’t pay attention to it much. I did go to a Beatles impersonation concert, which was a bust. The musicians at the bars, poolside, and foyer were ok to so so. None were groups that made me want to stop and listen to.
Children's Programs
No kids.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Service was excellent. The room steward was exceptional. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. The head waiter was sometimes absent minded because he forgot my order serval times. However, he was very friendly and attentive to all members of my party. Perhaps he didn’t care for me. Everyone aboard the ship was personable and helpful.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
All was very good. I loved the natural grass and the aft seating. The room was very nice with good balcony. The common areas were very clean and maintenance was ongoing. Never an issue with overcrowding or finding a place to sit and relax.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
The steward always maintained the cabin well. Size was very good, as well as the balcony. My only criticism is the shower water pressure, which sucked big time. I realize that water is a luxury on a ship and requires conservation, but I do require a shower up to my standards and the ship’s shower failed miserably. Looks great on your advertising, but it’s function reminds me of bait and switch.
Ship tip
Don’t have super high expectations about the food. Most dishes were very good, with a few pushing up another notch. Sign up for the bus ride back to the airport and don’t try a Uber. In the end, the bus ride will turn out less expensive.
Really loved old town and the fort. Shopping was reasonable, but the one restaurant we frequented was a total bust for me. Over priced and very slow service.
My favorite port. Picturesque and clean. The people were very friendly and I never felt that all they wanted were my bucks. Wished that we could have spent more time there. We walked around a lot of the city and met many locals. Did an excursion here to the top of the island. Worth it.
Took a taxi to a small beach. Great place to hang out and relax. Beautiful scenery and beaches. People also friendly here and laid back, and not pushy.
Very disappointed in this city. Very commercial and unfriendly. The area around the dock was nothing but a large sales zone. I realize that they are still recovering from a hurricane, but the town was messier than expected. We were looking for locally made souvenirs and handicrafts. Found a lot made in China.
Off loading not a problem. Exiting immigration not a problem. Catching a taxi or bus to destination was - in our case Miami International. The curbside was chaotic. Will use the ship provided bus service in the future.
