Review summary

We booked a guaranteed suite and ended up in a Sky Suite cabin 2118. We loved the location and the cabin except for the poor wifi in the cabin. Another guest raved about their wifi in cabin so I guess we just didn't get as lucky. We like the western itinerary and especially the stop at Grand Cayman. The ship experience was certainly a good one. The staff was excellent. We had a great time overall. We had lots of onboard credit and managed to reclaim it all via roulette in the casino.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We were in a suite and after entering the terminal door a person asked everybody if they were in a suite. We said yes and were escorted to a side entry point. They did a quick scan of our boarding documentation we had brought and our passports. Then they opened a door that put us into the passenger flow going onto the ship. Wow best ever embarkation.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
All dinners were in Luminae restaurant. The level of service for every meal was over the top.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Fewer activities than Royal ships but we knew that going in. At our age (seniors) this was ok with us. They still had things going on though. We saw some pool volleyball, archery, and hole in one competition. All good fun. Their silent disco in the evening was good too.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
We saw a couple comedians on different nights. Both were funny. They both did adult shows also and they were funny too. We generally are not impressed by production shows and these we saw were average too.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Every waiter throughout the ship was quick and attentive. Celebrity requires the staff in the Ocean View cafe to continually say good morning etc. At first I thought it was friendly but later I came to realize the zombie like chant that it really was. Just a little too much for my taste.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The solstice class ships layout matches closely with Quantum class ships. We happen to like the layout. Pluses (major in our view) are Al Baccio for coffee and pastries and the totally smoke free casino.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
This was a sky suite cabin which is like a junior suite on Royal Caribbean although there was no walk in closet. The bathroom had a tub though. The balcony was bigger than a standard balcony both in depth and width. A nice sized high table was on the balcony. The chairs were ok but not plush by any standard. This cabin, for whatever reason, had quite poor wifi. No way to stream any video in there. Plus numerous times the wifi just dropped out. Someone in a different cabin told us their wifi was outstanding. That was good for them but bad for us. Everything else about the cabin was great.

Ship tip

Don't expect a Royal Caribbean experience. Embrace the difference and enjoy your cruise. Of all beach stops don't miss Grand Cayman (western itinerary). There's essentially no beach vendors present on the beach.

Ports of call

Key West, Florida

5 out of 5
We visited the Truman House and Hemmingway House. Walked to both and then to the southern most point monument. Both houses had tours through them which we found quite interesting.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

4 out of 5
The week we visited had seen a major seaweed influx so we could not use the beach. We've been here several times before so it was not a major impact to our day. We walked through the port stores. We could have just used the free pool in the port area but we didn't.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
We've been to Cozumel many times but we chose not to go out this time. Sea weed issues this week caused us to wait for Grand Cayman to get our beach day.

George Town, Grand Cayman

5 out of 5
Went to the free beach for $6 each taxi ride (one way). Paid $20 for two chairs and an umbrella and enjoyed the best beach and water for the whole trip. Only two or three beach vendors offered massages. What a great place to be in the caribbean.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
They used facial recognition for disembarkation. No passports needed to be shown. Walked right past the normal customs stations.
