Review summary

We enjoyed this cruise so much we booked another one, Bermuda next May. We were definitely surprised at the number of kids and young families on this boat, but it was "March Break" in Canada. We had no idea. but we adapted and found quite places to enjoy ourselves. The kids were well behaved. We were told the average age of Celebrity cruisers is 59. Not so with a March cruise to the Caribbean.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
When we pulled into the Port of Miami, we saw 1000s of cruisers lying around on their baggage waiting to board Carnival Vista. They must have had to wait in line for hours. But our boarding experience on the Celebrity Equinox was short, sweet and painless.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We took all our dinners in the main dining room, "Silhouette." The food was exquisite as was the wait staff and the wine stewards. Couldn't have been better. We stayed away from the Oceanview Cafe because our ship was full of spring break children and teens (a bit of a surprise to us). It was loud and crowded...but the food looked fine. We had room service for breakfast several days. Outstanding.

Martini Bar & Crush

5 out of 5

The martini bar was so much fun. The bar tenders were also entertainers. We had the classic drink package so we paid $3 for the drinks, but it was worth it. We also liked the Sky Bar and the SunSet Bar.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
The most fun activities for us was the night we saw a rendition of Jersey Boys followed by Silent Disco in the foyer. I went to sleep with a smile on my face.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The cast on the Equinox was VERY talented. The comedians were also. The only thing we didn't like was "Adult Family Feud." A little too raunchy for me.

Children's Programs

no kids

Service and Staff

FABULOUS

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
VERY clean boat.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin was cleaned twice a day. Awesome. It was smaller than our Regent's cabin and the bath was MUCH smaller. But who needs a full size bath tub on a ship anyway?

Ship tip

take advantage of the activities. The entertainment at night is great. If one of your main activities is to sit by the pool, get there early. All the chairs were "saved" or taken by 9:00 am.

Ports of call

Key West, Florida

5 out of 5
Our favorite! We did the "on off" trolley, the Butterfly Conservatory and E. Hemingway's house . Everything was worth the money we paid. We ate on the 2nd floor porch of a restaurant and had stone crabs. This was by far our favorite port.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

4 out of 5
We were there during a security alert and the captain almost didn't stop there. We took a Mayan culture tour. It was quite good. We visited the home of a Mayan family, and had lunch there. They cooked the chicken in the ground and we put together tortillas. We forget how fortunate we are. I'm glad I did this tour.

Cozumel, Mexico

Take the cooking class with Luis!!! He was fabulous. We had a ball. Food was great. Lots of fun.

George Town, Grand Cayman

Port was fine but we took the wrong tour. We went to the Queen Elizabeth II Botanical Garden which was ok. The plants were fabulous, but our guide was a poor guide. He didn't even know what zone it was in. The 2nd half of the day was at Pedro St. James homesite. We were starving when we got there and they served us tea and pound cake. The tour guide was terrible and the movie/video we watched was only fair. Our tour this day was a bust for us.

Disembarkation

Easy. We held on to our suitcases because our flight was at 11:10 am. We started off the boat at 7:00 am and cleared customs by 7:20.

This is actually a huge relief for us. We're traveling with two teenagers that were scared there they would be the only kids over summer break. We actually like to travel on the less family-oriented ships even at the risk of my daughter and her friend being bored
