Celebrity Equinox

10 Night Eastern Mediterranean (Rome Roundtrip)

Sail date: September 09, 2011

Ship: Celebrity Equinox

Cabin type: Balcony

Traveled as: Couple

Reviewed: 13 years ago

Review summary

The ship is modern and beautifully designed. The rooms (we had a balcony) were spacious and storage was well thought out. Food was excellent and all around service was superior to any other ship we have been on. Also, gym and spa facilities were very impressive. We would love to have another opportunity to cruise with Celebrity again and plan to do so in the coming months!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
I suffer from various food allergies, and Celebrity went above and beyond to make sure that my stay with them was a safe one!

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The only negative thing to say about the ship is bad entertainment in the theater. However, even though we weren't impressed with the shows put on in the theater, we loved the singers by the pool and the spanish guitar/vocalist who played throughout the ship all day. Both groups were very enjoyable, so they deserve a shout out!

Ports of call

Naples, Italy

Take a tour to the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii with See Amalfi Coast. Vito & Carmine are the best! Our favorite town was Positano and Amalfi. Next time we head to Naples, we'll visit Capri.
Don't Miss: Amalfi & Positano

Kusadasi (Ephesus), Turkey

The ruins at Terrace Houses were unbelievable. Great tour through Hello Ephesus. We recommend booking with them. Again, don't use the overpriced ship tours.
Don't Miss: Terrace Houses

Piraeus (Athens), Greece

Santorini, Greece

One word: Oia. If you miss it, you'll regret it. One of, if not "the" most beautiful place we have ever visited. don't waste your time in Fira.
Don't Miss: Oia and the fishing village below it: Amoudi Bay

Messina, Sicily

5 out of 5
Don't spend any time in Messina. Head directly to Taormina, Castelmola, and Naxos. We took a tour through Sicily Life. Avoid the ship's tours b/c you will feel like a herd of cattle and will be overcharged for the experience. We booked all of our tours independently and it was worth the time spent researching them.
Don't Miss: Castelmola...it was a beautiful, quaint town. We loved it!

Rhodes, Greece

5 out of 5
Loved, loved, loved Rhodes! don't miss a visit to Lindos even though it's a bit of a drive from the port (45 minutes or so each way). Spend the day sunbathing in St. Paul's Bay.
Don't Miss: St. Paul's Bay and Old Town

Mykonos, Greece

Rent a car and drive to 3-4 beaches. Taxis are overpriced and car rentals are very reasonable.

Pros: Everything

Cons: Entertainment needs a rehaul, but with an itinerary like this, the shows weren't very important.
