Review summary

The beauty of Alaska is without rival, so the cruise was amazing despite not seeing the most anticipated part, Dawes Glacier. The staff on Celebrity Edge is EXCEPTIONAL and will do their very best to meet any and all needs.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
The staff was all very helpful, and despite our inexperience cruising, we got on board with little or no stress.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The variety of food was exceptional. From lobster and crab, to lamb and perfectly cooked steak, everything was delicious. I also indulged my sweet tooth all week. The staff preparing and serving the food were always kind and gracious.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
We participated in and/or attended lectures (very interesting), trivia competitions, corn hole, ping-pong, and even one dance class, and considering how little/well I dance, the instructor was incredibly kind and patient. Again, the staff was exceptional. But we had hoped there would be some sort of Christian Sunday service or at least the opportunity to meet for a morning Bible Study. Considering the desire for diversity Celebrity claims to have, and the DAILY opportunities for LGBTQ +, having at least one time slot for those of a different world and life view to meet would have been greatly appreciated. We were surrounded by the majestic beauty of God's creation and had no opportunity to gather and worship with other believers. We know other cruise lines, such as Princess, offer these types of opportunities. I hope Celebrity does so in the future.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The performers were incredibly talented. The comedian on our first night was our favorite performer. He was truly clever with no need to be crude, which takes far more talent and intelligence. The only disappointing performances were the drama type presentations. The performers were incredibly talented, but the "story" was mostly just symbolism instead of a meaningful plot. The dances lacked variety and were at times too suggestive to be comfortable watching. Again, the acrobats, dancers and singers were INCREDIBLY talented and worked hard to entertain, we just wished they had been given a good story with more variety of dance, maybe representing different genres of music or time periods.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff was amazing. We were a fairly large group assigned to the Cyprus for dinner. We needed multiple tables for our group. Arthur was our server, and he was OUTSTANDING. We cannot say enough kind things about him. My husband and I also greatly appreciated the kindness and hard work of our stateroom attendant Gede. He did an excellent job.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was beautiful and the outstanding staff worked very hard to keep it that way. We greatly appreciated their commitment and hard work.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We were VERY pleased with our room. It was only an interior room but was spacious and very comfortable. We were pleasantly surprised with all the cleverly hidden closets and cabinets to store possessions. And again, Gede took very good care of us, keeping the room clean and comfortable.

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

3 out of 5
We did not do any Seattle excursions or spend a great deal of time in the city, so I cannot give an informed review.

Ketchikan, Alaska

4 out of 5
We did not have an excursion in Ketchikan but did enjoy walking through it, enjoying the views along Creek St., and even had time to enjoy the museum.

CRUISE ENDICOTT ARM & DAWES GLACIER

1 out of 5
Sadly, we did NOT see it. We were told there was a medical emergency, which we understand takes precedence, but Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier was the highlight of the cruise for us when booking. Our excursion to the glacier was reimbursed, but no other effort was made by the cruise line to compensate us for missing what we most anticipated. We essentially booked the Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier Cruise without ever seeing the Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier, which would be funny if happening in a sitcom... less so in real life.

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
Excellent! We booked an excursion to Mendenhall Glacier through an outfit separate from Celebrity. They did an excellent job. Later in the day, we enjoyed a whale watching excursion we booked in advance through Celebrity. They too did an excellent job! We saw many humpback whales and even saw the "bubble netting" we had learned about at one of the naturalist's lectures.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
We really enjoyed this port as well. I researched in advance and found a nearby nature trail that was very scenic. We also enjoyed just walking around the town of Skagway and exploring its shops.

Cruise Inside Passage, Alaska

Victoria, British Columbia

4 out of 5
The stay in Victoria was brief, but since we had an excursion to Buchart Gardens, we got to see a good portion of the city on the bus going to and from the Gardens. The bus driver was very helpful and informative. We felt a little rushed at Buchart Gardens (so much to see, so little time) but the gardens were simply stunning and a beautiful way to end our vacation.

Disembarkation

It was fine. We really appreciated the new service of our check-in luggage being delivered to the airport for us.
