Celebrity Edge

7 Night Italy & France (Rome Roundtrip)

Sail date: June 04, 2022

Ship: Celebrity Edge

Review summary

Celebrity did not disappoint. Now is still the time to cruise with decreased capacities. Would have liked the "at sea" day at the beginning rather than the end. Very busy itinerary, but a unique one, many ports we had not been to.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
We took two trains from FCO to the port and walked to where the shuttle bus was pre-covid. The station had moved about half a mile further away. Not a problem, but better signage would have helped because my Italian skills need improvement. Shuttle bus service was limited, we waited almost one hour. Embarkation was quick and easy.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Fortunate to have Luminae for our meals. Same waiter from our last Edge cruise in July 2021. Menus have changed slightly in Luminae, always good choices available. Meals served in a relaxing speed, at the right temperature with great presentation and flair. Only one evening did service seem to be slow.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
With a port every day, we did not attend many activities. Retreat sundeck and pool was relaxing and uncrowded.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Edge production shows are more technically advanced from other Celebrity ships. Seems to have larger cast. Guest entertainers were better than some we had seen in the past. Live music in some of the venues was a little loud, unable to carry on a conversation.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
As usual, staff exceeded our expectations. Always knowing our name and preferences. Captain had good humor throughout. Not too many senior officers out and about, but pleanty of staff to take care of your needs. Capacity was just over 1,000 passengers, so the passenger to staff ratio was 1:1.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Ship still sparkles like brand new. Some do not like the new design, but we found it a welcome change.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We had a S-2 sky suite. The best room layout we have had for that suite category. Room, bathroom, and balcony was perfect.

Ship tip

Book now, capacities are still low. Never wait for an elevator, service is exceptional.

Ports of call

Portofino, Italy

5 out of 5
Probably the most beautiful port we have been to. We walked through town, found the bus to the train station, then went to Cinque Terre.

Ajaccio, Corsica

5 out of 5
Took a ship tour, 2 hour walking to see the old city. We had a local food tasting, with a very knowlegable guide. After, we took the little train through town, followed by the hop-on-hop-off bus. Surprisingly inexpensive for Europe.

Barcelona, Spain

5 out of 5
Took taxi to train station, then onto Girona....what a surprise! Old town very scenic with exceptional churches.

Palma De Mallorca, Balearic Islands

5 out of 5
Took ship tour to Soller, boarded histiric train through the mountains and countryside. Fun and relaxing....however lack of restrooms.

Cannes, France

5 out of 5
Had a private car for the day. Went to Nice, Eze, and Monoco.

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

4 out of 5
Used for embarkation and disembarkation. You can arrive by train, but a considerable walk to the shuttle bus. OK if you have minimal luggage.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
No issues, fast and efficient. Ship provided the mandatory masks required for travel. Also, provided return testing for the passengers that needed it, for a fee, unless you booked before november 2021, for those passengers it was free.
