Review summary

This was our first cruise on Celebrity - and it will not be our last!  We were celebrating our 50th anniversary, and chose to go first class all the way.  So we booked Suite accommodations on the Eclipse.  Boarding the ship was a breeze, and immediately after finding our stateroom, we met our Butler, Harold.  And true to his word, he handled everything we needed - from dining reservations to breakfast in our stateroom to laundry and so on.  We then discovered Luminae, a separate dining area for suite guests - spacious and never crowded with top flight service people.  The ship was elegant, yet not overstated, and immaculate.  The destinations were all excellent - especially St. Petersburg.  Take this cruise if you have the chance.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Excellent. Luminae, dining room for suite guests, was a huge plus. Oceanview Cafe had huge selection and excellent food. Specialty restaurants we used (Murano and Tuscan Grille) had over the top menus and food (but were not impressed by service at Tuscan - very disjointed - we had about 5 servers).

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Really enjoyed the Corning Hot Glass presentation.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
A couple of excellent programs, but for the most part, the evening performances left something to be desired. Live entertainment at pool was very good, as was central Atrium performances - especially enjoyed the Oom-Pah band in Germany.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Harold, our butler, was superb. Handled every request, and always had a smile on his face.

Ship Quality

Cabin / Stateroom

Plenty of room. HOWEVER - we were directly below the Oceanview Cafe and the noise of people walking and service carts being rolled was not good. Get a suite on a lower deck if possible.

Ports of call

Southampton (London), England

Zeebrugge (Bruges), Belgium

St. Petersburg, Russian Federation

Recommend excursion from a company that limits to 20 people or so. We used Shore Excursions - and they were great.

Helsinki, Finland

3 out of 5
Probably a nice city, but a letdown after 2 days in St. Petersburg.

Stockholm, Sweden

Copenhagen, Denmark

Canal cruise was excellent.

we returned from the Eclipse on Sat 10th Oct. The oceanview buffet is open 24hrs. They start to clear away breakfast around 10.30 but limit to a small area for late breakfast until 11.30 when the lunch time food starts coming out. Lunch is until abt 2.30 but again there is a small area left with lunch until abt 3.30 when afternoon tea open sandwiches cakes scones etc are served. Evening meals start around 6pm but of course Moonlight Sonata the main restaurant opens for the evening also Blu and speciality restaurants. Blu is also open for breakfast but for Aqua class guests only. i don't know what food is served in Oceanview in evenings as we never went there late. Hope this helps ☺

We have booked on celebrity  eclipse for Sept 2016, I've heard that once breakfast is over there's no more food available till lunch time, could anyone tell me  if this is the case as we don't always make breakfast.  On other cruises  we have been on food was available 24hrs a day.
