Delta Cruises travel agent, Barbara, was not very helpful. Always got the feeling that we were bothering her. Definitely felt like everything we needed had to be self-service. Not at all happy with included WiFi, drink package and prepaid gratuities. Had to upgrade on board in order to get decent WiFi and drinks. We were not in control of the gratuities, and we didn't know when or how much each person who provided service was paid. Felt as though they were looking for tips. Made me uncomfortable. The ship was very nice, although quite crowded. The room was quiet and restful. Thought the ports were poor choices, especially Puerto Plata.
Embarkation
3 out of 5
Took forever to get to the pier in the shuttle. Lots of police activity.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Disappointed in the food selections in main dining room. No upscale selections like lobster or filet mignon as I have had on other ships. Instead, served tough sirloin steak, rock-hard French baguettes, bad duck. Had better luck with pasta dishes. The main dining rooms themselves were beautifully appointed. Buffet lunch was good.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Took 2 excellent sketching classes with Lenier! Never knew I could draw! Tried paracord classes- the staff members who taught them were not very good. Had better results working with other students. Enjoyed musical bingo!
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Shows were excellent! Loved Captain Kirk's rock show! He is so talented!
Children's Programs
I was glad there were few children on board. Would have preferred none.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Great service from waiters, sommeliers, room stewards. Most people were very willing to help.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Common areas were nicely appointed, but on the small side. I have been on other ships where the open spaces were much roomier. Martini bar was always packed. Ship was quite crowded.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Cabin was very nice, if small. Comfortable beds/linens. Very clean. Bathroom was nice size. Liked the infinite veranda.
The water was a disgrace. Lots of garbage and debris floating around the ship. Ship was docked near a commercial area with lots of shipping containers and cranes. The shopping area near the pier was nicer, but every one of the shops had the exact same souvenirs. I would never visit the Dominican Republic again- filthy water.
We took an excursion that had a very nice man as the tour guide, but didn't see anything of much interest. No good shopping opportunities. Nothing unique.
