Review summary

We went on the cruise for our 20th wedding anniversary excited to experience the Caribbean and our entire cruise was ruined on the first port day. Our day started with a Carnival sponsored excursion on St. Thomas, a Catamaran Champaign Snorkeling Cruise. We started drinking water as recommended, went snorkeling, then the rum punch drinks came and got stronger on the way back. After the trip, we came straight back to the ship. Neither of us realized how fast the rum punch kicked in. Before she even knew what was happening, my wife tripped and fell trying to get back aboard and scraped her face. Because she fell at the bottom of the gang plank entrance the check-in team sent a wheelchair to assist in bringing her aboard. I then took her to our room for the night. Later that evening I went to the Casino and was refused a beer, I assumed it was because of what had occurred earlier, so at the time, I felt this was understandable. We woke up to a letter that had been delivered under our door. It stated that the Security services had decided to refuse our Sail & Sign privileges for alcohol for the remainder of the cruise for safety reasons. After a couple of days, I went to Guest Services as directed on the letter to see if the decision could be changed. I talked to a security officer who said the decision was made by some upper Security and unless we heard from him it wouldnt be changed. I thought we were polite and cooperative and not unruly in any way so I still dont understand the no alcohol for the entire trip decision. This was an off the boat excursion and not related to any behavior experienced on the ship itself and we felt that your Security personnel over-reacted by extending such a harsh judgment. We like to have wine with dinner. I like a couple of beers and to see good comedy shows. Every night the ship has on-board parties encouraging drinking, we do not participate in these types of activities as they are more designed for a younger crowd. In hind sight I wish we would have left the ship and flown home the next day and could have celebrated our anniversary in the manner we had hoped. Obviously, you won't be publishing this review, but I believe an apology is in order. Until then: In our eyes you have shown us Carnival is not the cruise ship of choice in the future. We fully intend to spread the word on your Security services and to fully advise others to choose a Cruise ship that is willing to forgive an accident.
