Review summary

This could have been the best cruise ever, but for the food and food service. They ruined 14 days on this ship. There were a few waiters here and there that were good, but mostly it was just so terribly slow that by the end of the cruise most diners were just going to the Lido (why wait hours for food that is of no better quality than the buffet) and the dining room was mostly empty.

Embarkation

Long lines, but not too bad.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
The main dining room food and service were AWFUL. Waiting hours and hours for food that at times was not edible. Everything was so slow that people were honestly bringing decks of cards to dinner to pass the time. If you went to both Sea Day Brunch and evening dinner in the dining room you easily spent 5-6 hours out of your day sitting in that room. I would compare it to a Golden Corral, at it absolute best. Lido buffets were below average, nothing special. Guy's Burger Joint and Tomodoro were good. Il Viaggio was a big waste of money, don't do it. Teppanyaki Japanese was GREAT!

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Two pools are very small. Water slides are fine. Splash pad for little ones is lacking. Ropes course, mini-golf, bocce ball, and other games were good. Ship had corn hole, ping pong table, a couple foosball tables, and board games available.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Mostly went to the comedy shows because dinner took so long we missed the shows in the main theatre, but the comedians were pretty good.

Children's Programs

4 out of 5
Both Camp Ocean and Circle C were as expected.

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
Our room steward was good and the cruise director (MarQ) was great and are the only reasons for 1 star. If I were reviewing them alone, 4-5 stars. The dining service was AWFUL, just ruined the whole cruise, and 1 star is too much.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Beautiful ship, but elevators and elevator controls were often covered in nasty hand prints and were not wiped down regularly. It was disgusting at times.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Cabin was as expected. Clean and comfortable for 2 people.

Ship tip

Make reservations to eat in port and save yourself some time and money; don't waste money on Il Viaggio.

Ports of call

Barcelona, Spain

Malaga, Spain

Malaga was very nice. The sea kayak/cave excursion is A LOT of paddling and not really "caves", would not do that again.

Gibraltar (U.K.)

Lisbon, Portugal

Took a Tuk-tuk tour and then our own walking tour. Loved it.

Ponta Delgada, Azores

Halifax, Nova Scotia

Rented a car at the Westin Hotel across from the port and then to Peggy's Cove. Beautiful and a huge money saver over the excursion price for a family.

New York, New York

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Fast and convenient, but we carried our own luggage. Highly recommend car service from Vinny at NYC Platinum Transportation (NOTE - NOT NYC Perfect).
