Review summary

We were with several first time cruisers and another couple of experienced cruisers. It was interesting to see it from the first timers point of view. Perhaps supplying a paper map, one that can be printed off when tickets are printed, would be helpful to them. One of our party is handicapped and is only able to walk a few steps and used a scooter. Accommodations for her were excellent. There was plenty of room for her to maneuver. Our dining experience in the Lincoln Dining Room was fantastic. Our waiters were the best!

Cabin / Stateroom

Our cabin was larger than some of our travel-mates' cabin that had a balcony. My husband was planning on upgrading after we got on board, but as soon as he saw our cabin, he changed his mind. He loved the large window.

Ship tip

It is set up exactly like the Carnival Freedom. I had been on the Freedom 6 months earlier, so I never got lost.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas Did not visit port

We got on and off here.

Cozumel, Mexico

We enjoyed the glass bottom boat excursion that included the chocolate factory and tequila tasting. It was reasonably priced and the bus driver's skills were amazing. Antonio, I believe, was his name. Our guide, Sylvia, was excellent.

Progreso (Merida), Mexico

4 out of 5
We did a last minute excursion to a beach. It was not our first choice, but was all that was left when my husband finally decided to get off the boat there. The service at the family friendly beach was wonderful, the bus ride and guide was very good. The prices at the port in Progresso are much more expensive than Cozumel. I will complete my shopping in Cozumel, should we go on this trip again.

Disembarkation

The weather was bad and we were delayed getting into Galveston. Not anyone on board's fault, it just made us impatient and frustrated. The ship staff worked hard to make it organized, but the passengers were just over it and ready to go.

The Carnival Hub app has all the maps and the ship schedule. You can even "like" an event and the app will notify you when it's about to start. The app is free and can only be used when on the ship. I have it downloaded now and it's just giving me a count down. Then once I'm on board it will go into full effect. You can even pay like $5 to turn it into a chat where you can chat with others on board. We always buy the social media Wi-Fi packages so we haven't used the Hub for chatting. It even keeps up with your expenses. Anytime my teenager charged something on his sail card, I could see it in the Hub app.
