Review summary

Had a great time swimming in the cenote and caves and of course snorkeling with all the absolutely gorgeous types of coral, sea fans, crustaceans and schools of brightly colored fish on the meso american barrier reef, especially in the southern part where much of the beach coral is still intact and unspoiled.  Was more than a little overcast on the trip this time and some of the passengers seemed to get rowdier as the seas got rougher, without any intervening of security or staff.  I guess everyone is happy to leave a soon to pass out, belligerent drunk alone.  Also had more than a small problem with our air conditioning in addition to our beds not being the kind that fit together like we had last time, which really put the brakes on cuddle time, but ultimately decided we didn't really need a refund for any of these things.  Still, might just fly down and spend a week in San Pedro at the beach next time.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Food was really hit and miss. Too many meals were no better than a greasy spoon buffet.

Onboard Activities

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Again, Carnival excels at keeping their passengers too busy to complain about what their brand lacks by being THE fun ships.

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
Saw smiles on all the kids and teens faces as far as I could tell.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Excellent as always. Carnival really cares, even if their methods and equipment have declined for various reasons.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
I think the Valor might have been too big for me, especially considering the stabilizers on a larger ship apparently work no better in rougher seas.

Cabin / Stateroom

Air condition didn't work. Beds didn't fit together. Seas seemed very, very rough considering there weren't any major storms in the area. Staff and our attendant did the best they could with the limited materials they had to work with. I wasn't about to ask and pay for another cabin, assuming one was available, unless it was offered. But it should have been offered.

Ship tip

Watch out Carnival, your brand is slipping!
